Delhi gang rape: Victim's friend cross-examined by counsel for accused

The court will record the evidence of the youth and four others including the magistrate, who was part of the judicial proceedings relating to the test identification parade of the accused on February 19, 2013.

NEW DELHI: The male friend and the sole eyewitness to the December 16 brutal assault and gang-rape of the victim in a moving bus was cross-examined by the defence in the fast-track court trying the case here on Monday.

The youth, a software engineer, who had testified as a witness for the prosecution during in camera proceedings against the five accused who have pleaded not guilty to the charges of rape and murder framed against them, was today cross-examined by the counsel for accused Pawan Gupta.

His cross-examination will continue on Tuesday.

The victim's friend arrived before additional sessions judge Yogesh Khanna in a wheelchair because of the injuries inflicted on him in the heinous attack of December 16, 2012.

Apart from the victim's friend, three others ' including a person who had seen the accused destroying the evidence after commission of the crime ' have already deposed in the court.

Meanwhile, the court will tomorrow record the evidence of the youth and four others including the magistrate, who was part of the judicial proceedings relating to the test identification parade (TIP) of the accused.

The 23-year-old girl had died on December 29, 2012 in a Singapore hospital as a result of the grievous injuries she had suffered when she was sexually assaulted by six people, one of whom has been declared as a juvenile.

defense lawyers are just fighting it for fame. one of them already gave public statement questing damini's character, as expected.

Delhi gang-rape case: Cross-examination in progress, says defence lawyer

Defence counsel for two of the five accused in the barbaric Delhi gang-rape case, AP Singh on Tuesday said that the cross examination of the key witnesses in the case are going on smoothly.

"The manager of the bus, in which the incident took place, the doctors who examined the accused and the other complainant and the other doctor who collected the samples for preservation, have been cross examined," said AP Singh, while speaking to mediapersons outside the court complex at Saket.

The trial of the five men opened on February 5 with closed-door testimony from the victim's friend who was also attacked, appearing in court in a wheelchair, still bearing the scars of injuries from his beating.

The girl was repeatedly raped, tortured and the couple were severely beaten before being thrown on the road from a moving bus in South Delhi area in the night of December 16 last year.

The victim later died of internal injuries in a Singapore hospital two weeks later.

Delhi gang-rape case: Judicial officers to testify

New Delhi: The Sub Divisional Magistrate and the Metropolitan Magistrate, who had recorded the statement of the December 16 gang-rape victim, are likely to appear on Thursday before the fast court conducting the trial.

The judicial officers, who had recorded the statement of the 23-year-old victim at Safdarjung hospital here, were on Wednesday summoned as prosecution witnesses by the court.

Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna, who has till today recorded the statements of 27 prosecution witnesses during in-camera proceedings against the five adult accused, issued summons to the magistrates.

The two judicial officers had recorded the victim's version of the brutal assault which is now being treated as a dying declaration against the five adult accused facing trial in the case.

The girl had died on December 29, 2012 in a Singapore hospital.

The 28-year-old male friend of the girl and the sole eyewitness to the assault is yet to be cross-examined by the counsel for the bus driver Ram Singh and his brother Mukesh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Singh.

The details of the proceedings cannot be reported by the media as the court has imposed a ban on it under law.
