Is being 'cool' important?

I just don't get it. I live in a world of terror in my school just because I'm not as cool as everyone else. Everyone calls me pathetic.

According to the 21st century, cool means wearing attractive clothes, listening to modern punk/heavy metal music, watching teen shows and shopping at the mall.

I don't mind that at all. But what I'm trying to say is that I'm a goody-goody two shoes and a teacher's pet. People call me 'uncool' because of that.

Which is more important - being popular or having a good future and earning a lot of money? Please post your opinions.

Ohh bubble_gum... Look there is nothing like cool or hot... just people's perceptions..... if u are talented go ahead, shine in ur studies as they will help u more in future...😊

Even they may try to associate such things with u as they are not able to do wht u can do.... yup! U should be able to enjoy life as well... but do wht u like..not wht others like! e.g if u are not comfortable with metallic music, go for the music style u like to listen... they are YOUR ears, not their ears! 😊😉
And BTW welcome to IF 😊

Teen years are so rough. Long ago if you were duffer in studies, you were the one who felt ashamed. But now trend is different, if you are not socially aceptable, people make fun of you. You are the out cast.
Look Bubble gum, focus on your studies...that's if it's your passion. If you are only using books to escape from all the other people..it can turn into an ugly thing.
You have to have a balance in life. You should study for a secure future, but also participate in sports or extra curricular activites.. Join Tenis or dance class where you will make new friends. Join high school news paper team or year book editing team. You need to stimulate both sides of your brain. In future you will have to go out in work environment and work with all sorts of people. This is the age when you learn how to mingle.
People can be rough especially in your age...if someone makes fun of you..just avoid them. You don't have to entertain their thoughts, nor you have to feel sad about yourself. If someone talks bad about you, they are only harming themselves. You don't need to carry their burden.
When I was your age, I used to worry all the time and gave importance to usless opinions of others. Then my older sister told me a story. One time a sadu(sage) was sitting with his students. All of a sudden this angry guy comes in and starts to yell at the sadu. He screams angrily and calls him names. "you are a fake. you don't know anything. why do you preach when you yourself don't anything." The Sadhu doesn't utter a word. He lets that man ventilate his feelings. When the man doesn't see any reaction from sadhu, he leaves. Sadhu's students were amazed and asked ," why didn't you say anything to him? Why didn't you defend yourself?" Sadhu goes ," Why would I let his thoughts and beliefs distrub me?" If he is happy saying the things he wants to, then let him be happy. Why should I carry his stones of burden on my shoulders?" He has a lot of anger and he is stuck with these stones forever. If I had said somehing to him that means I accept his stones of burden."

Popularity in school is highly overrated. Its of no use whatsoever in the real world.

The "cool guy" in high school may end up being a waiter in a restaurant owned by a person who used to be the biggest nerd.

In the workplace, however, people do look at your extracurriculars. So do try to participate in some stuff outside of academics.

Just be yourself. There is nothing "cooler" than that. 😊

as long as ur able to express ur feelings and desires u are fine and no will be able to point a finger at you...people who think they are cool are half the time very insecure and attention seeking.

awwww Bubble-Gum i know the school years are the toughest!! Even 15 years ago that was the most important thing , to be "happening!"

But Dazzling Desi did give you a lovely inspirational story. Here's a quote that i always tried to remember every time in school when i got upset with any taunt. " Bricks and stones may break my back..............But names will never hurt me !"

I hope you get the strength and confidence to be comfortable in your own shoes. And best is to toughen your skin. Don't let the creaps get to you.
