Is being 'cool' important? - Page 2

hi cool bubble gum 😉 ..welcome 2 I-F and DM 😊

as a high school student myself i can totally relate to what u r talking about. im not the "cool kid" either...but i like it that way 😆

i have my small circle of friends..we hang out and have lots of fun...we may not be the coolest or the most popular but we sure are not "nerdy" or boring. its not abt being the coolest..its about being urself and having a good time at it...yea studies are reallly important (who knows tht better then me as i head off to the toughest year of hs-the dreaded junior year ) and never neglect ur studies to "chill" but you need to be able to balance both in moderation...2 much of either of thm is a bad thing

even though u may not be the most happening kid in ur school, im sure u have a few friends with whom u spend ur time and u all have a blast 2gether...and thats wat matters...who cares if most people dont know who u r..the few that do care for u more than enough 😉

oh yea..and from personal experience...not every1 likes the cool kid 😉 ...they think they r cool..but onle a few kids are in that "cool" click and the rest of the school isnt...so all the "uncool" kids get picked on by the "cool" kids or the "cool" kids have attitude problems so no really likes the cool kids..in my school..this "cool" girl (its soofunny no1 likes her...wonder who declared her cool...oh yea she is miss self-proclaimed "cool" 😆 ) well yea she ran for executive board position in the student body government years ago and expected to win hands down cuz she thot she was "cool" and she hung out with the cool kids...but since she acts like a jerk with every1 else no1 voted for her and she olst...haha u shud have seen her face wen election results were announced...she didnt give up..she ran again last year...and lost again 😆 ...hope she learns from her mistake and decides not 2 run this year 😉 ...so as u can c....picking on kids and calling them nakes gets u nowhere 😉

Hey I'm back. Anyways the stuff u guys said really helped. I do participate in some clubs like the swimming club, the art club and the piano club.

But I'll try to get more involved. I have two or three really close friends.

Bubble_gum if you take part in these activities and are topping in studies..then you are perfect. You will be much more succesful and these cool kids will envy you 😃

You can be a 4.0 student, teacher's pet, focussed on having a great career (I personally don't link the money part with it, but I respect your opinion) and yet be fun to hang out with. It is hard I understand as everybody judges you based on your grades and assumes you are the book-worm. But it is not impossible to break the shell and be funny and lovable.
In case you are actually the studious book-worm, then that is who you are. Ignore people who think you are uncewl. Don't let that boggle you down. But ask yourself who you are and what you want to be. Do try to live life.. Variety is the spice of it. Youth never returns. There are things you can enjoy only as a kid, and only as a high-school student. Stay focussed, but don't forget to enjoy & grow into a versatile adult! 😊

I am too late to enter this topic but everyone seems to be in consensus - I am with them..think of it this way....Dead people are cool! I rather be at 98.4*F. thats wot most of the 'cool' kids in our school r like, ppl hate them but they think they r cool, i dont know y they think that cos if u hate them im sure there will be some1 else who hates them too.

there is a girl in our school, and she is a smoker so he acts all tough and stuff, she has loads of older mates, but we dont like her, cos she is a really nasty person, even i think she is really popular, but not many ppl like her, if she has a fite, there will be other smokers to stick up for her, but that doesnt mean they like her. i hv actually heard that inside she is quite a chicken, dont know if its true, but see these are the cool kids, rumours go around bout them all the time, no one likes them, they seek attention and get it, but not the right sort, they think they r popular cos every1 knows them but just cos lots of ppl know u doesnt mean u r popular, lots of ppl know her cos she acts tough and cos ppl hate her.

i have a friend, that i hv known for 11 years and wen she came to high school, last year she made friends with 2 other girls and left her old friends, she wanted to be popular, she didnt realise that b4 she was popular but wen she started acting 'cool' ppl stopped liking her, she is not popular, she used to be, not any more, ppl know her, but hate her. she acts tought but thats not who she is, ive known her for a very long time, she is confident but not nasty, well now she is, sometimes, she still has a nice personality wen she talks to us, but she has changed so much, trying to fit in with the smokers, why does everyone think smokers are popular, i dont, well i do, but i dont like em, and not many ppl do, so how r they popular, no idea, they act popular so i guess that makes us think that they r but they r not

I dunno what to say, being only 18, I'll tell you something. High school sucks! 😆. This is the place where all the coolness and crap comes out.

Who has the best designer clothes, who is the best partier and so forth.

Academics never play a part in being "cool". My parents often say.

"The kids of the new generation think that being cool is to party and dress good, while in our day it used to be a good studier."

Although I agree with what my parents say, I think to be truly cool in todays society, you must be an all rounder. Just looking good, or just being book smart wont get you anywhere.

You have to be people smart as well as school smart. They go hand in hand.

Going out with friends, having a good time, but then balancing your time to do good in school is important!

Hi I couldnt resist but reply in this thread. I must say that being cool or popular or hip is a big factor going through the teen years but one must understand that these days will be over soon. Do we know what's really behind all those cool images that we see? Do we know what kind of problems these kids go through to be popular? Do we know what kind of price they pay for that 1 min of popularity or coolness? During my school years i noticed that a lot of the people who were cool or popular had some sort of problems in their personal lives. Being cool at school just fills in that void with fancy clothes, fancy friends and even fancier drugs. Not spending time in class ensures a perfect future for these popular kids. To me the reason why these popular kids make it soo hard for others to join them is that they dont want them to find out the truth behind the facade.

In the end, the popular kids will be the ones getting hired by the goody two shoes or the "nerds".

Although i never went through this problem but I have seen a lot of people and even lost friends to such situations. High school, heck middle school can be a pain. But we must remember that we must worry about future and in order to do that we must work on our present. That too with the thought that in the end it is our future that will be effected with the choices we make today.
