Harry Potter was not likeable to me. His character is extremely irritable at times. Gets angry (even at his friends) without any reason. And is prone to commit stupid mistakes, and I really don't enjoy reading about people who lack common sense. Moreover, I felt the defeat of Voldemort at the hand of Harry Potter was a bit forced. Almost as forced as Terminator defeating T-X.

Overall the series was engaging but I found it a bit formulaic. Somewhat like the Hindi movies of yesteryears. They used to be engaging no doubt but used to be formulaic.

I didn't keep a check, but it was little over an hour if I am not mistaken.

But dude, i stated my opinion and i respect yours.

I'm afraid it didn't seem like you were doing so when you so conveniently put others down who shared a different perspective than you by calling them to "grow up".

Now, if "debating" over 2 completely different series is well, mature to you, then so be it. Continue to believe that

There is nothing immature about debating / comparing / analyzing different works of art. Immaturity is putting someone else down, like you did in your first post, and I concede I am guilty of doing so too AFTER YOUR POST and would be more than willing to face the consequence of my action - if only all the sides are penalized depending on the level of their transgression. But if you notice, I haven't put down any section of fans or members down before that - my posts were directed only at the WORKS, not the fans. It wasn't until you made your post, which you directed towards the FANS / MEMBERS, that the debate/discussion turned into a personal territory.

but there is no need to be so rude and sarcastic about it.

I hope you take a note of your own behavior as well - I repeat, up until you posted your "opinion" on others to grow up, there has not been a single mention of any members or fans or any personal attacks thrown in. I know I had been unreasonably sarcastic and I would freely apologize on my behalf, but it seems rich to me that on one hand you found it okay to ask others to grow up - who have behaved with respect up until then - but don't see a problem with your own judgement on others.

As for the thread that Madz had closed, please tell me why you think that we don't know what we're doing? One, that has NOTHING to do with me or what we're discussing and two, what she did, it was her decision.

It has nothing to do with you, but it does have some bearings to this discussion - I don't see why a discussion which was done so reasonably and logically on BOTH sides need to be closed down. Is it simply on the basis that criticizing works of literature has become akin to bashing or insulting here?

If i hurt your feelings in any way, i apologize. But i was merely stating my opinion. Unfortunately, even a civil comment seems to be dangerous to post on IF anymore.

Apology accepted, but you can't be posting your opinion - especially ones that put others down - and not want others to dissect it in a public domain. And I'm afraid, your comment was far from "civil" - asking other members - who up until then have done no wrong - to "grow up" isn't my definition of "civil".

Sorry if I came off as being cross to you - even though I quoted you and Angel-Jot. the post was mainly to her and to an extent, generally. I quoted you two because your responses sparked out the thought. Read my other post where I actually said I think you did a fine job of giving your opinion without putting down anyone else.

I'd just like to say that i find it funny how my "grow up" has angered you so much when it wasn't even directed at you.
Well, according to you my behavior was rude and i even apologized for that. =]
As for the topic being closed, Viewbies know what topics to close and what not to. Unless, you have some problem with Viewbies. =]

Anyhow, i'd really like to get past this and not make a big deal out of it. If you'd like to continue this and keep posting rude remarks about me, be my guest.

I'm sorry, but I can't look at a "grow up" comment as anything more than a low-brow comment that is certainly putting others down. Why would you even ask someone to grow up if you think they are at the desired level?

Originally posted by: Angel-Jot.

And that "grow up" was definitely not meant to you. What is the deal?

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the 'grow up' was directed at those who disagreed with your stance (which is one shouldn't compare different works of literature/art) - and I happen to be one of them. Add 2 with 2 and you get 4. What is the deal? 😉

I stated my opinion. And that was that.

...which I found very condescending. If it weren't for the "grow up" bit, I would have actually taken the time to reply to you - giving my sentiments - but no, you'd to resort to calling others down as well. But at least you had the heart to acknowledge your mistake.

Somehow telling people to "grow up" is putting them down. Okay. =]
Whatever you say. =]

It was nice chatting with you.

I am sorry but then whom was it directed at then? You obviously wouldn't be asking those who'd agree with your stance of not comparing different works of literature to "grow up" because that is the perfect level you assume one should have. You were directing it at those who think it is okay to compare different works of lit., and guess what?, I happen to be one of those.

Er...if you think people are at the desired level, why would you even ask them to "grow up"? Obviously you think they need to "step ahead and move a few level higher" so obviously they must be somewhere at the bottom.

"It was nice chatting with you. "

Same here, ditto.
