A doubt about BCCI

Can anyone tell me why BCCI is headed by Sharad Pawar? What is the selection procedure? What is the tenure? Wouldn't it be ideal if an experienced and retired Cricketer was the chairman instead of a politcian?

So true, I never thought about it, there should be a experienced cricketer as the BCCI chief instead of a politician

yeah a retired cricketer knows what is needed for a succesful team

You wont believe it Maya, I was thinking of just the same thing the other day...Guess who the previous chairman was:late Mr.Madhavarao Sindhia..I know Mr.Sindhia was well versed in cricket and so must be this Sharad Pawar..But no idea why these politicians hold that seat...And I agree with you that an ideal option would be some ex-cricketer..

@Raksha, I think chief of BCCI is one of the best money making position so we can't expect these politicians to give it away. It is high time we bring a change in functioning of BCCI.

you have exactly said what's running in my mind.......it's nothing but a money making racket, there is so much money at stake...obviously you'll find a politcian heading it. now the rumours are that sandeep patil may take over as coach....that makes it .......pawar as chief, sandeep as coach, veng...as chief selector..is kiran more around too...then only Bal Thaceray is left.....now i wish i was a maharastrian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😕...u heard the news today...SP is making 2 teams seniors and blue....what the hell is that? ab ek nahi dono haath se paise batorneka,kya?

What is BCCI? The administrative control for the national cricket team, isnt it.

I do not wish to say sharad pawar is good or Madhavrao Scindia was good and xyz was bad etc... but I cannot agree that a former test player or a former cricketer is the best person suited for this job.

Reasons:-

A) It is a administrative job, its all about managing and the players are not known to be good when it comes to matters of administration. If we had someone who was good, why not... but having a professional Administrator at the helm of affairs is the right choice. Who is the professional administrator is a matter of interpretation, whether a politician can do administration is a matter of interpretation.

b) Its about managing the commerce aspects of the game. Not many players have the astuteness to strike when the iron is hot. Had our Board not been so astute in commerce matters, cricket wont be the hyped sport it is in our country and our players wont be in their current financial position.

c) For a country which can lose to Bangladesh 🤢 the board does a good job of getting more and more contracts to play 😡

Long and short of it is, I do not believe that a former player is best suited to the job, and in my opinion, Sharad Pawar is a fine administrator (at least when he was the chief minister of Maharashtra).... but may not be the best that is available for the sport.

I think they must let professionals do their job instead of taking over cushy posts merely to fill their own pockets, they must permit professionals to fill up the coffers first so that the game benefits.
