Gardes, in my humble opinion the reason that Amma did not have a rebuttal is very simple. Today when Radhika held Amma's hand and stopped Amma from hurting Vishaka not only did she break the cycle of violence but also broke the power Amma had over her.
In real life such a feat is very difficult to achieve for a survivor! How was Radhika able to do this?
Amma has controlled Radhika in various ways. She has always treated Radhika like a servant, degraded her life, made decisions for Radhika and consequently made her feel that her emotions and her needs are insignificant. Amma robbed her of her identity as a woman worthy of love and tried to erase her existence by attempting to murder her.
After Rads became Dev's wife, people who meant a lot to her (Dev, Dadi, Vaishalai, Vivek, Birju and the staff) treats her like she is a queen. They want her opinions and bide by her decisions. Dev gave her, her life back and nullified Amma's act. The PF has given her back her identity as a woman to be loved and cherished.
The strength that Amma saw in Radhika today rendered her speechless. But she has a perpetrator mentality through and through. She will be re-energized in thinking she can bring Radhika's downfall by continuing to wield her power and control over Radhika. It will be interesting to see how Radhika will continue to fight back.
Loved today's episode. It was very therapeutic!!!
Angake, thanks. I was hoping you would post your take and you are right. This was Radhika untying the shackles of her past! It was very symbolic when Radhika held on to Amma's arm and prevented her from hurting "mor poti". Goes to show Amma's short-sightedness even though she is B M Shashtri's mother and widow of one of the learned men of Vrindavan. Does she even really love Vishakha, for the extent to which she chases the Purohit wealth? How abominable! Today Amma was reduced to NOTHING! The last vestiges of her power were gone in a flash!
It did not stop Amma from trying her old modus operandi of verbal abuse, though, as far as she could take it. Eventually Radhika very respectfully gives Amma the one reason that empowers a person on this earth - LOVE, something Amma never learned and knows nothing about! It stunned Amma speechless! It was a divine moment for me.
It is funny that in those 5 mins of Radhika, I felt like a proud Mama! If I were watching at leisure at home, instead of sneaking in at lunch time, I would be crying my eyes out! I plan to do so later in the evening. 😳
Angake, for me the episode was very cathartic!
