Today I thought about writing something about the two actors who are the stars of this show. You all guessed it right, this thread is about Avinash and Rubina. For me personally, it's their eyes and the various emotions that they project through their eyes that keep me coming back to watch this show.
Avinash has always been a good actor. Although his fortes are serious and angry roles, he is also at home with his dry sarcastic wit and humour. Regarding romance and acting, it's the soft subtle romance that he is master at projecting. He is what is known as a very good character actor, one who can easily slip into any role that has been offered to him. What attracted me to his acting is his command over voice modulations and very good use of body language and expressions, especially eyes. Sometimes as an audience I don't mind him not having any dialogues. One of my favourite scenes of his in CB2 was when he went and covered the statue representing Radhika with a piece of cloth signifying the end of his dreams containing his dream girl. Within few moments...there was a continuous progression of emotions on his face...starting from pain, despair to repressed anger. To me emoting without words and convincing the audience of the characters conflict is the hallmark of a good actor. Another scene of his which I liked a lot was a recent one when Dev comes back with blisters in his hands and Radhika applies ointment to sooth his pain...he is just sitting silently and staring at her with awe that at last there is someone in his life who genuinely cares about him and can do anything for him. Both the scenes were without any dialogues but his eyes and facial expression did the talking.
Now coming to the other half of this pair...Rubina . I am extremely impressed by Rubinas growth as an actor. I cannot really say what suits her most...I mean what sort of roles, because I find her quite flexible when it comes to acting. What has impressed me regarding her acting is her recent control of voice modulations. Rubina has a thin voice so at a higher pitch it used to sound as if she was shrieking but now she has learnt how to modulate the tone and pitch of her voice and as a result that the shrieking effect does not happen. Voice modulation is an important part of acting. Some actors are naturally good at it and some have to learn the techniques and I am happy that Rubina has done it. She has grown by leaps and bounds in the acting department. When CB1 started although she was a bit raw (being her first role that was understandable) but the potential was visible in her acting. Similar to Avinash, she is very good in projecting the conflicts and thoughts of the character that she is enacting in CB2 without the use of any dialogue...just her facial expression and her eyes does it for her. In this show my personal favorites were when she projects cold anger mixed with disdain...when she is gently teasing the other characters as Radhika...when she as Rdahika is silently supporting Dev...when she as Radhika was slowly falling in love with Dev and was leaving her KK behind. To me Rubina is one of the actors for whom silence speaks...sometimes her one look is enough to pass on the message to the audience. Few of my favorite scenes of her from this show is the chunri scene, the expressions flying on her face was worth watching from happiness to confusion and then to being completely distraught...when she was standing at the temple after being ridiculed at home and looks silently questioning her Kanha...when she was applying ointment as Radhika to Dev's blisters with a distraught expression on her face.
However good an actor is, the success of a show is the result of a team that works in tandem...the writers, the producers, the director, the editor, the cinematographer and the lastly the actors. If any of these links are not working properly then a show will be affected and just holding the actors, specially the leads responsible is not right nor fair. Dev is a very complex character and Avinash has completely justified himself as Dev in this show. Both of them have brilliant chemistry with each other (I don't think I need to go into details of it), but what I like about their scenes together is the silent partnership between the two...when one steps up, the other steps down.
With this I am stopping here and I will take leave with this statement ...
To grasp the full significance of life is the actor's duty; to interpret it his problem; and to express it his dedication- James Dean
And as far as I am concerned both of them are living up to it and my thanks to both of them.
