No comment about Avinash's looks as it is a personal comment and also not sure what brief he was given about his character in the beginning. The story and everything seems to have changed. Nothing is matching the synopsis shown on Zee website.
But I am also concerned about his characterization. In these creatives' mind, innocence and goodness goes well with dumbness. I am assuming that they are trying to portray him as innocent person who believes in others' goodness and power of love. But that doesn't make one dumb.
One can still understand others' vibes and somebody who is taking a responsibility from an early age for all the work and can read others (meaning Radhika as Misti explained above) can not be dumb. According to Rubina's interview in one of the promo, Dev won't like Chanda. So that implies that he was intelligent enough to figure out that Chanda is not a nice person. He figured out that Chenu was a fraud quite easily. Then he can't be gullible and only will be one if he is made dumb. The creatives did that with Abhay and I am sure they will do it with Dev based on the experience so far.
As Misti mentioned, the innocence is fine as long as it is around Radhika. Even there he would have to become serious at one point and that should be when his dreams are shattered. I am sure that a dumb Dev will be shown to become intelligent in one day if it suits the track and then be dumbed down the next minute. There is nothing gradual as far as these writers are concerned. Even in CB1, one minute Radhika was astute about Amma and Vishaka and would remain unmoved by their tactics and talking about their sins reaching the limit and then next moment she was forgiving everyone.
So remove this inconsistency and show his multiple dimensions in his interactions with various characters - childlike and innocent with Radhika for now in his infatuation, then serious when he realizes that he is losing her to Rohan, determined when he decides to fight for her and realizes that his own family is creating obstacles. Similarly, he needs to be serious with other family members of his own family where he is not smiling like a puppet at everyone. Again this all depends on chunnu munnu and they don't seem to be serious about this show.
