Nandu, I too was protected as I was growing up but then there is only so much parents can protect you in the real world!!! Also another thing I realised is that when you are in your teen years, parents try to hide things from you, in hopes of protecting you... Now, I realise that it's good to protect your children, but not so much that when the time comes to face life alone, they are overwhelmed! Because when a person's support system is taken away from them, they struggle to face life! And by protecting, parents are making themselves the sole support system for their children... The other thing is that sometimes parents too are taken aback by cruelty of others & they don't quite know how to react either...
Where there were examples of parents literally trying to kill their own child, I have also met parents (both sides) who have celebrated the fact that their children have found each other and supported them when the society was against. It's so difficult to know how parents would react in some cases...
