Oooh. Heart-breaking moment from the Mahabharata for me:

Ekalavya's gurudakshina. Absolutely unfair, and terrible thing to do to a devoted, talented and intrepid young warrior. And coming as it did from Drona- such an accomplished warrior himself- he played favorites. Bleh. Nepotism. Cannot countenance exacting such a heavy price for knowledge.
