POWER PACKED: If the coffee does not stimulate you, the guests on Koffee with Karan surely will.

Mumbai: A cup of coffee can be a catalyst not just for conversation, but also for nostalgia and that is exactly what will happen when the second season of Koffee with Karan premieres this weekend.

Three of the host, Karan Johar's best friends (Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherji) will share priceless moments on the show.

So what should one expect form the show that is starting again?

"Koffee hamper is bigger, more expensive may be. This is more wittier. Karan will break a few bounds in this one," says Kajol.

Shah Rukh adds, "Rapid fire is interesting. Today he (Karan) showed us some kids talking about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (KKHH). It was nice to see kids who still like the film."

For Rani Mukherji the show revived old memories of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

"It'll was exciting to be under the same roof. Just 10 years ago, we were shooting for KKHH. It was nostalgic," Rani says.

Meanwhile, the host and filmmaker Karan Johar seems happy with his first episode.

"We forgot there was a show with cameras, it was like a lounge chat. I hope people get that vibe," he says.

And here's someone with a ringside view of what transpired on the new-look set.

"I think it was wonderful to see the energy that the three of them had. They were very comfortable and it showed that they love each other very much and are closely related," says actor of yesteryears and Kajol's mother Tanuja.

SRK gifts Tag, cell phone to Malaika

By: Upala KBR
February 9, 2007

Knowing Shah Rukh Khan has its perks. Who knows that better than Malaika Arora? Recently, she appeared on Kaun Banega Crorepati 3 and even shot for a small role in Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om, produced by SRK's company Red Chillies Entertainment. As a token of his appreciation, SRK sent her a bag of goodies.

Goodie bag

Says Malaika, "Shah Rukh approached me for the role in Om Shanti Om. He said it's sweet and funny and something I haven't done before. She's a superhero kind of a character, clad in a red gown and flying off rooftops, something like Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit but with a twist!"

Apparently, she did the role for free. Says Malaika, "I did it for Farah, who's a very dear friend. If she asks me to stand upside down for her, I will. I have never had so much fun playing a character before."

But Shah Rukh and Farah know how to repay their friends in style. Recently, Malaika was pleasantly surprised to get a hamper from the Red Chillies unit – cards from the crew, flowers, a Tag Heuer watch and cell phone.

Laughing, Malaika says, "They thought I needed a new phone desperately, that's why they got me one. It's always a pleasure to work with Red Chillies. They give the smallest, personalised touches to everything. It makes all the difference."

Malaika says that SRK, Gauri and Farah are all very close to her. "That's why I felt so at home when Arbaaz and I met all of them on the KBC3 show."

Finger play

Arbaaz and Malaika won Rs 12.50 lakh on the show, which they donated to their favourite charity — St Anthony's Home For The Aged in Bandra.

When we ask her who was the better player, she says, "We were both equally good, but Arbaaz had an edge. We both love playing board games like Trivial Pursuit and Articulate so we are used to it, but initially, I was slightly nervous.

Sitting in front of Shah Rukh is a nerve-wracking experience but also great fun. Karan and Farah were making us laugh a lot by making cracks at each other. The only time I fumbled was during the fastest finger slot, but there too Arbaaz beat all of us. It was a question on cricket and he knew the answer."

Freeze frame!

Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri

We spotted a cute picture of Shah Rukh and wife Gauri hanging in his Film City room on the sets of Om Shanti Om.

Sprawled across the photo frame were the words: 'For the best couple'. Inquiries revealed that one of the KBC3 contestants had gifted him this snapshot, and Khan had happily put it up in his make-up room on Farah Khan's set.

Apparently, SRK is constantly flooded with gifts and trinkets that participants from all over the country bring especially for him. And the perfect host that SRK is, he always makes it a point to receive them graciously. Sweet!

SRK fan not in KBC for cash

By Gayatri Reddy

V.V. Raju, Hyderabad based publisher of the magazine Start Winning Today is ecstatic, but his happiness has nothing to do with winning Rs 25,00,000. That's secondary compared to the thrill of meeting his hero Shah Rukh Khan in person. "The only reason I wanted to participate in KBC was because I would get to meet SRK and get his autograph," says Raju. He now has six pictures and two autographs of the star.

"He is such a wonderful and humble human being," Raju gushes. During the commercial breaks, Raju managed to teach Shah Rukh around 20 Telugu words, including pellam (wife) and podam (let's go). SRK also wanted to learn how to say 'I make my wife happy' in Telugu. The star also pretended to be upset when Raju told him he would make a Telugu film with Mahesh Babu since he couldn't afford SRK's hefty price. To this, King Khan replied, "How can you take money from me and get Mahesh Babu to star in your film? You have to make a movie with me too." Asked about his preparation, he says, "I read the newspapers everyday and that helped." Raju has no idea what he will do with the prize money since he didn't expect to get in the hotseat. Now that's a problem many would love to have.

Shahrukh Khan blames media for 'star rivalry'

NEW DELHI: Indian superstar SHAHRUKH KHAN says he finds out which actor he's supposed to be fighting with from the newspapers.

"A few years ago when I used to get up in the mornings I would quickly check the papers so that my children don't see it, just in case I'm fighting with someone," Khan said in an television interview with Bollywood filmmaker KARAN JOHAR.

Khan, 41, has been in at the centre of a media storm with news reports claiming a bitter rivalry between him and fellow actor AMITABH BACHCHAN, 64.

Khan has recently started hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati - a television show based on Who Wants to be a Millionaire - which Bachchan used to host earlier, adding more fuel to rumours of rivalry.

"His family is nice to me, kind to me and I'm kind to them. We get along very well," Khan said.

"But I have to keep on justifying this and it's a little embarrassing at times."

'Where will I stand at Tussaud's? I don't know'

Shah Rukh Khan on whether his wax statue will share space with Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai at Madame Tussaud's

OMAR QURESHI Times News Network

Congratulations Shah Rukh Khan. So now you're a superstar waxwork?

Yes! And I'm happy at the honour. My mom used to wish that I'd get to be big enough to make it to Madame Tussaud's. At a time when people didn't travel that much, going to London once in a lifetime — including the incredible Madame Tussaud's in the itinerary — was a must. Now I'm there, it's a dream come true. I was thrilled when they sent me a confirmation saying I'd be part of it. Now it's my desire to take my kids to see it.

In every likelihood you'll stand next to Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and the other famous Indians

I don't exactly know where I'll stand at Tussaud's. I have no idea about the placement. Wherever I do, I'll stand in my own space I guess!

Suddenly the so-called 'rivalry' between you and Amitabh Bachchan seems to have become the talking point?

I have no rivalry with anyone. Mr Bachchan is way too senior to rival or compete with. It's like saying, by doing Devdas I was competing with Mr Dilip Kumar — I don't compete with him. If I have healthy competition, it's in my own league — with Salman

Bachchan is in a different state, stage and age in every way. It's just being spoken of because I did Don and now KBC."

What did you think of Amitabh Bachchan's statement in the TOI; saying 'I want SRK (Khan), Aamir (Khan) and Hrithik (Roshan) — and there too, we talk about our films; wishing each other well. Mr
to copy me…'?

Frankly, I take it with a pinch of salt. It all depends on how interviews are written. Sometimes the tone of speaking is different from how it sounds when written. I'm experienced enough to understand that. I don't know whether he really said it; or know how he said it, or what exactly he meant. I'm sure it wasn't how it came across. I've been doing what I do and I do what I feel like doing."

How do you react to his statement that he didn't like the new Don?

There are films that lot of people don't like and people have a right of choice as to what they like or don't like. I didn't make it for a person. I made it hoping that lot of people will like it and I think a lot of people did. I can't change the film. It's an individual reaction. There are many films that I don't like — of my own and of other people. I guess it is closer to Mr Bachchan because he has also done the film. He has every right to make the comment.

What exactly is your personal equation with the Bachchans?

I'm friendly with them. The Bachchans call me a colleague and a friend — this is the relationship I have with them. I speak to them quite often; whenever we meet. In my heart and mind I've no bad feelings for them. I think they're wonderful.

There was talk that there's a socio-political alignment happening in the industry…

It's all crap. We only make films and not socio-political or structural changes in the Indian society. We entertain and make people laugh and cry. It's simple and difficult. It's not complicated. I don't have participation in any social or economic aspect of this country except for the fact that I entertain people.

Campaign Blitz for Kaun Banega Crorepati

Mumbai to the New Jersey Turnpike -- ShahRukh Khan Is Everywhere

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 08, 2007 -- DIRECTV's South Asian advertising agency Elephant Advertising, a wholly owned subsidiary of CineMaya Media Group (PINKSHEETS: CNMY), has released a media advertising blitz across print, television, direct mail, and outdoor media to promote Kaun Banega Crorepati (the Indian version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire") hosted by ShahRukh Khan on DIRECTV's Star India Plus channel.

"The magnetic power of ShahRukh Khan's smile touches the hearts of a billion plus around the world. It's no secret Khan's biggest fan following is the South Asian community," stated Nayan Padrai, President of CineMaya Media Group. "It's not everyday you drive down the NJ Turnpike and see a face that you would normally see on the Bollywood silver screen smiling down at you.

We hope every Bollywood fan who sees this campaign will feel a little closer to home."

DIRECTV has been a big proponent of the belief that we live in an assimilated world, without borders. Thus, Elephant Advertising's marketing campaign for DIRECTV not only reaches consumers through traditional South Asian media, but also through touch points within their daily lives. Whether one drives down the turnpike or takes the train to Metropark, Elephant Advertising's media blitz will reach the consumer. And hopefully when they get home, they will turn to DIRECTV.
