THE LITERARY LOOTERS

Posted: 4 months ago

Here are some Pride-themed books with no explicit smut and unconventional romance. Check them out if you're interested, Shirsha.

1. This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone [ time travel ]

2. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller ( this comes highly recommended ) [ greek character ]

3. A Taste of Gold and Iron by Alexandra Rowland [ bodyguard romance in a fantasy kingdom ]

Thank you for the recommendations! But I won't be able to read these books in June. That's because I intend to read 4 or 5 queer books, 1 or 2 non-queer books and 1 unfinished book of May in this month. So, it'll be extremely difficult for me to read these 3 books along with those books. But I'll definitely check the blurbs of these books. If these books seem interesting to me, I'll read them in future. Did you also find straight love stories in the category of unconventional romance? Bee recommended a few books to me. You can check her post. If any book seems interesting from her recommendations, you can read.

I recently searched time travel romance on Google and came across a novel named Transcendence. Ye love story kuch jyada hi unconventional hai. smiley36 Itna bhi unconventional nahi manga tha maine. smiley37 It's an unconventional love story of a young girl from modern times and a caveman. She time travelled (I think accidentally) to prehistoric era and met a caveman. The book was written from the perspective of the caveman. It was written in first-person narrative. He couldn't talk to the girl because he didn't know how to speak a language. He thought about giving the girl a baby many times in his mind. smiley36 I saw quite a few positive comments about this book on reddit. So, I read several passages from the novel and then understood it wasn't my type of book. smiley36

Shorter fics can be allowed provided they are logged as the same entry. For eg:

If you read 3 FFs that are 6000+ words / 20 pages each, you will log them as one entry of 18000/ 60 pages.

Does the above rule count for Pride themed online fics as well? That is.. can I count these fics for Pride Prose Challenge page count?

You can provided you follow the above rule (shorter fics need to be combined and logged as one entry amounting to 60 pages)

Hinna, I liked the quote about lotus flower that you wrote on Pride Prose Reviews thread. Even though I'm not reading God of Fury and don't know anything about the equation between the two guys, that quote seemed nice.

I liked the nickname. I like flowery names.smiley36

For those who are reading FFs and online fiction, another reminder that shorter fics are ONLY allowed when 5 of them can total upto 60 pages. You cannot add an infinite number of smaller fics like drabbles or one shots (shorter ones) and make up one log of 60 pages. It won’t be fair that way since we have excluded journals/ magazines etc

Ri, I read a long OS which was logged at 52 pages. It is a sequel to one of the fanfics so I logged it separately. Let me know if I need to make any changes.

since it’s 52 pages you’ll need to log more pages to it to make it to 60 as that’s the minimum page count for a log.

Also please bear in mind that this applies to Queer fics too. And the theme will need to be maintained for all fics that are under one log for it to count as Queer themed. For eg; If your log has one Queer themed fic of 20 pages and 2 non Queer themed fics of 20 pages each, it won’t count - all 3 fics would need to be Queer themed and you would need to write quotes and review for each of them

@Blue What if we are continuing a fic from last month? Can that have less than 60 pages? Since the book rule allows less page count for continued books, I thought the same would apply to fan fics... but let me know if I should group them together anyway.

@Green Quotes for each? Can you please give a quick glance to my post and let me know if it's okay? I've been writing a general (i.e. story based) review for each fic + mentioning the specifics of pride theme collectively. But since we were supposed to give only 2 quotes on the whole... so if I've... say 3 fics bundled together for 60 page count, I pick 1-1 quote from any 2 of them and skip one. Should I do 2 quotes for each (so 6 in total for the whole bundle of 3 fics?)
