Because his movies have a black-and-white nature. KANK had more nuance than RARKPK, but somewhere, he justified at least Rani's character.

Something like infidelity can be told without judgment. Case in point: Masoom. Audience will accept it because they're intelligent enough to know human emotions are complicated. Heck, most of them are human themselves.

Unfortunately, KJo has no respect for his audience. Also, he is somewhat lacking in depth. Combo results in RARKPK.

Say what? If this is true then does that mean Dharmendra and Shabana Azimi were playing Sunny and Dimple? 🤔

KANK is something I could get behind. If only he could show that SRK and Rani do understand the consequences of their actions. But Kjo being Kjo was just shallow and superficial.

People fall out of love and marry without love too. But SRK's character was just insensitive, insecure and quite frankly borderline emotionally abusive.

Coming to RRKPK, the oldies' affair just creeped me out. I could not really take Jaya as the out and out bad guy when I saw how her husband never loved and appreciated her and was a cheating docuhebag.

And to think, nobody gave a shit about the Grandma Jaya , not even Ranveer and started match making with another widowed woman with adult grandkids. What a rot.

No wonder Jaya never liked Rani. Would you like the grand daughter of your husband's mistress and allow her as a bahu? I would not smiley36

Yikes. Eww

He should have just kept it like they were in love with each other, could not marry due to family pressure. but always kept their first love in heart. Never got proper closure. Hence they could not give 100 percent of their live to their spouse. Years laters feeling relief after meeting their first love.

It was creepy to see dharam yelling jamini jamini and kissing random women smiley21 Thats the reason movie could not do good business. There was no need to make jaya aa dharam’s wife. they could have made her evil sister who did not let dharam and shabana marry in younger days and both are single/Widowed. but kjo being kjo

What are we placing homosexuality on same ethical plane as cheating?

I agree with many of what I've read here...

@KANK: I remember that SRK wasn't happy at all with some visions of Dev and some cheating parts Karan insisted on (I won't elaborate, at the moment)...he also voiced concern during all the public talks/interviews about the way infidelity was handled in the movie...and he was right given reactions that I still can read.

Yet KANK was not only - at least - a bit nuanced, it also gave agency to the partners through divorce so that they left the cheating partner to him-/herself and started a more fulfilled life.

@RARKPK: Yes, it seems that Karan wants to make a point about understanding cheating in a relationship, to excuse a moral wrong (didn't he do it also in ADHM?).

However, had it been necessary for this movie? I think it was not only handled badly but also forced. To bring two former love-birds together again is a nice idea but the execution and the EMA aspect kills it - to me.

I equally reproach to Karan for giving Jaya this character arc!

The work Karan did with this movie (again) shows that he favours the romantic aspect of love which is quite 'lopsided', imo.
