You may not think access is nepotism. But to many talented aspiring actors, the fact that people with inside connections get auditions is extremely grating. It is nepotism.

But what you deem as dishonesty is extremely common with jobs. So many jobs it's not what you know but who you know.

Believe me. I get it. I'm not an actor, but I do write. Also got picked up by a book to screen agent. Maybe bragging a bit, but I take every chance to make myself feel better about the situation, so gonna brag anyway. The agent found me, not the other way around, because of a review from a known journal. (Please congratulate me 😆. I need the validation)

Sadly, the first thing anyone wants to know is she someone famous or someone whose family name we can use? I heard about Aryan Khan's script being produced. Then I heard it was being worked on because it wasn't up to par. But it will get produced.

It's difficult not to feel bitter. And this is coming from an SRK fan.

Now, I know someone who knows someone who is into production. I asked if my friend would show it to the person. Waiting on that still. If it gets adapted, will it be nepotism? I sure as hell don't feel that lucky. I mean I worked darned hard on writing, editing, proofing over and over. If a producer actually lays eyes on it, does my work mean nothing any longer? He won't be producing it because he knows my friend for sure. If his company picks it up, it will presumably be because they see potential.

Any chance we can get a crack at what the movie/book is about ?

I write under 2 names.

The Indian ones are heavy on romance. The first one can best be described as Ek Tha Tiger meets Pink Panther with some political thriller elements. The 2nd one is a medical romance drama with the background of blackmarket organs. It's supposed to be a trilogy. Setting 3rd one in media milieu with an Arnab type boss. I haven't worked out the details in my mind yet.

The 2nd pseudonym is very American and very male. Historical thrillers set in 20th century New York. I just got an email the series got long listed in a contest. Short list due later in September. We shall see how it works out, but I'm cynical now.

Congratulations. It's cool to be picked up by an agent. I'll also come to you when I write a book or write the screenplay for my higher-ed sitcom. I plan to title my bio "Sachin, Shahrukh, Swift" to ride on their names. 😆

My three most recent jobs have been handed to me on a platter. One I got because my retired former boss recommended me to a friend. One I applied for a job but wasn't fully qualified, but they liked me so much that they made a new position up for me. Didn't even have to interview for my current job - they sought me out - made a position for me and gave it to me. My sister says - she could always complain that only white guys have this happen to them and how I ruined that for her. 😆

It's because I am the best at what I do in my niche. And it has been years of grinding and hard work to build my reputation. But I remember when I would send resumes and job applications, and I wouldn't even get an interview. And I do have a lot of guilt and imposter syndrome for getting ahead of so many. Despite all that I'm still probably way underpaid as a woman of color.

😆 Probably. Look, I get it. If my parents were in the field, I'd take advantage. I'm sure I'd give every advantage to my own kids.

Anupama and her pals are not wrong for using their connections. Just don't reduce someone else's hard work to *that's also nepotism* to deny your own privilege.

I would love to read a book with that title 😄.

If they sought you out, you must be really good! 👍

Here's a song to cure that imposter syndrome.

Having access is still relative to how PH's take a risk on big budget movies.

what is wrong with being a nepokid when most of them are somehow related to industry people?

If talking about non- nepokids then Kartik, Ayushmaan are the one without any backups crawled the ground and stable up until now.

Nepotism is bad when you snatch good work from other people knowing that anyone could do the job better than you. healthy nepotism is good for the industry. Vicky, HR, Ranbir are not spreading nepotism by taking industry down. Those who are without talent needs to stop working and find some side business with their father’s money.

Again someone who didn't read. I wasn't even calling nepotism bad. Just don't lump the privilege of nepo babies with the difficult journey of those lower on the social scale but still had access.

It ain't the same.
