Ok here it is. As a wholesome review.
This is the funniest film out of all the previous Karan Johar directions. The entire theatre could not stop laughing. Even at some of the vulgar jokes. (So typical of Karan Johar) And it was packed. Films like KKHH and K3G also made more money abroad. Someone correct me if I am wrong. KHNH too I believe.
There were some issues that were beautifully handled. Like the social construct of gender. All the perceptions and cliches that go along with it. The weight shaming that sometimes a family does worse to their own family members. The whole concept of marriage and having to fit into a completely different family is also realistic. Sometimes it can just one type of punjabi going into a different type of punjabi family. It does not even have to as distinct as bengali going into a punjabi family. Other issues were not as greatly handled. But overall it was a going mix of masala entertainment and some peppering of social messaging thrown in here and there. It was more complex. Not just focused on giving one specific message like K3G or KHNH.
This was the best Alia has ever looked onscreen. The glam team did a great job on her. I don't know VFX also played a part but she was looking attractive for sure. Her acting was good too. Ranveer shined as Rocky without making look like a caricature at the same time. They however did not have that much chemistry.
The other senior artist Dharmendra and Shabana were amazing. So were all the other supporting actors. Jaya was not at her best here at all. She has been an amazing asset in other Dharma films. For the first time she disappoints.
