In U.S. the contracts are a little different so let’s assume that it’s 25/75 in favor of producers and let’s assume it’s that way for all the overseas earnings. How much will it earn overseas ultimately? Around 100cr net which means Disney gets 75cr of it. Let’s round it up and say Disney gets 100cr from overseas markets. It’s still leaves it with 310 to recover and going by 50/50 split it will have to make over 600cr to just break even. I know the movie is bringing in big numbers now, but it’s way too early to assume it will go above 600cr for any amount of profitability.

All that being said, this weekend’s numbers make it very easy for marketing teams and PRs to manipulate the narrative to call this a hit even when it may not be.

This is a great comment, thanks for breaking it down.

What do u mean by there's no distributors sale ? Does it mean movie is already a hit before release ?

@bold does it make any sense? I mean they're not streaming for free.

What this article is saying is that Disney isn’t looking to make a profit out of Brahmstra but rather establish the world of high tech digital astras for future movies in India. They acknowledge that the movie cost a lot and it probably won’t recover it’s costs. However after Brahmstra, Disney owns the basic blueprint of of the movie, everything about Brahmstra is now Disney’s intellectual property, and making the next movie can be done with a much more controlled budget and those future movies can become profitable for Disney. Disney according to this article could be looking at a franchise that can work for the next 10-20 years.

Theoretically this can be true. Disney could be looking at taking a loss here for big profits down the line. Whether it’s true or not remains to be seen.

Omg thank you so much for explaning..... 😊

Typically producers sell the movie to distributors and then distributors have their deals with exhibitors (theater owners). How much profit the distributors make from the price they paid for the movie determines whether the movie is a hit or a flop. In this case Disney is distributing it themselves so they didn’t need to sell it to a separate distributor. So they have to make a profit based on the money they spent on Brahmstra which was its 410cr budget.

Disney has its own OTT platforms (Disney+, Hulu, and Hotstar) so as producers they don’t need to sell it to another OTT platform like Amazon or Netflix to eventually stream Brahmstra.

I hope this made sense.

The lies being peddled.

Generally from overseas 40/60 is what producers get. But again disney is distributor themselves in USA.

And they charge 60/40 from USA.

Some people have no knowledge whatsoever but wants to sound cool and find reasons to attack the movie.

Also not having distributor and distributing themselves makes them more profit. But again these people will not know this.

And again the movie going to Disney+ ,Hulu etc.. is actually beneficial for them. But how will they know. They only want to stir pot and hate.

They will never accept it. Just like they still think Gangubai flopped.

Alia-Ranbir are in their hitlist. They will find ways to discredit any success.
