I think Islam is one of the most regressive religions in the world today and has failed to adapt and evolve with times. The subjugation of women that it encourages is pathetic

But the problem is Entertainment industry doesn't have balls to speak against it. They always hit out on Hindu religion.

Anyways I have mentioned everything about Karva or Kanyadaan enough to my ability. The rest is on you to interpret and what you want to takeaway from my post.

Thanks for commenting!

IMO Hindu religion is too strong to be weakened by fringe groups and video advertisements. It has stood the test of time for centuries. I do not think such incidents are going to weaken it.

And I dont think it is just today's generation. My parents and grandparents generations also do not know all the tales and stories and correct interpretations of the religion. Most of it is taken on face value. Kanya Daan has a negative connotation to it, and can be seen as the root cause from where dahej pratha started. I feel like you are just failing to see it from the common man's view, because you are happy and satisfied with the traditions that you follow.

Precisely my point Hindu religion is weakening generation by generation! And Entertainment industry is acting like ghee in that fire.

I already mentioned how majority of the bad guys and villains are islamic in Bollywood. Since forever. There are scenes with the bad guy reading namaaz and then setting out to kill someone. This is a common thing inn mainstream Bollywood. That is common because it reflects the reality. Its just that people have started questioning some Hindu traditions and beliefs more openly now, with the women empowerment movement hitting a higher gear in the last 2 decades, and now that is being reflected in movies and media.

t might have shown Muslim bad guys but that is they are showing bad Muslim person they aren't showing Muslim religion in bad light. But Bollywood is targeting Hindu religion for decades.

Either you are oblivious to how Bollywood is functioning or you are just don't want to admit to the fact how Bollywood is corrupting Hindu religion.

That is why mantra spoken at the time of Kanyadaan is different from all the mantras spoken at the time of donation/daan.. anyways let me get to the point where I show what it actually means..

In the religious realm, lucky are the parents who get daughters because they get the opportunity to purify their sins(even the one's made in previous births).

The bride is treated as incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, not the so called objectification as people believe it today. So all the mantra's spoken at time of Kanyadaan are to seek blessings of the god that the parents of the bride have performed their responsibility of making Goddess Lakshmi meet the groom who is believed to be incarnation of God Vishnu. Parents of the bride have fulfilled their dharma, they have done the most divine act uniting Lakshmi back with her Vishnu and now the parents of daughter can attain Moksha..

One of the mantras literally means that parents are thanking god Vishnu for giving the opportunity to raise a daughter and now give rightfully back to him. As part of the cycle of birth and life to continue its important that Lashmi and Vishnu meet continue that cycle.

Thanks for sharing this valuable information, I wasn’t aware of this ❤️

I think the problem stems from the fact, these days it’s not about spiritual significance, be it any religion. People just want to use rituals in the name of Dharm for their own selfish reasons and benefits..

Aur jo dekhna chahe.. uski wani dikhta hai.

Things need to change depending on the era and age we are living in.

Not just our generation but our parents generation didn't do enough to guide us about our religion. Each generation by generation we are losing faith in our religion. I wont blame our grandparents because I know they tried lol.

To be honest I have wavered my religiousness from being going to temple one day a week to not believe in god to finally now seeking the path spirituality in my own way.

I also tend to question everything about Hindu religion Infact I searched on scientific reason behind Navratre and was amazed to find one.

I'm not religious but would classify myself as seeker.

In most countries and traditions it’s true. But I wonder in certain cases it’s cultural. Is it merely cultural or religious too? (apart from certain aspects of course)

But as I have lived (around 15 years) in Oman, I can say that in many ways it’s good and bad. They follow an Ibadi form of Islam which is said to be liberal (as opposed to Wahhabism which is the most extremist form of Islam and followed in countries like Saudi).

What I don’t like was the fact that you can’t show a temple, church etc from outside that it is one.

Or during Ramadan we can’t eat outside because Muslims are fasting.

Being unmarried and pregnant will land you in jail.

You can’t be dressed to immodestly.

But in many ways, I found the Omani Muslims more liberal, open minded and friendlier than Indians .

They will always help people on the street.. no matter what nationality or religion..

Omani men are very respectful towards women/ girls. They won’t let you stand in the queue if you are the only girl/ woman (regardless if your religion).

The gentlemanly behaviour- they will never let you carry stuff in their presence.

If you ask them directions, they will drop you there!

I remember there was an incident where a guy from my Indian school (we were outside in the parking area after school) was showing middle finger to a girl.. Omani guy students were passing by, they got so angry.. they beat him up black and blue! And a guy from Pakistani school who knew Arabic came to break them up 🤣( Pakistanis are very friendly to Indians abroad and vice versa.. try taking a cab in Dubai sometime)

I have never faced any Eve teasing or been groped by the locals, it was always people from the Indian subcontinent - Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi.. and the Balochs were always a nuisance for some reason. (though one of my friends had a bad experience once with an Omani).

Also, Omani women mostly don’t live in joint families. Like the west, guys move out of their homes when they start earning. (My friend wants to marry an Omani for this very reason; she can’t stay with in laws 😆)

Well, I’m a Hindu but we are now satsangis (have been for 100 years; we are classified as Hindus only though).

Most of these traditions are already discarded in my family so I have only read about them. (Though my paternal grandma is Arya samaji & we are not).

We don’t even do follow any rituals at all.

Especially the wedding ones - we have to marry within a budget; now recently even the pheras have been replaced and just like a court marriage..; no dowry allowed at all. These changes have been slow, but bit by bit they have been shaken off.. inter caste marriages are encouraged too.

I think it is ridiculous to blame our parents for not guiding us. They had enough shit going on in their lives and fighting enough battles and trying to give us better lives, to also take the responsibility of hand holding us about our religion.

And it's not like our generation is this saintly generation, who would have listened to our parents if they had guided us on our religion 😂
