We don’t realise this because there is a concerted effort to criticise n derail the basic tenets of Hinduism by misinformation as well as propaganda.

Check out Dismantling Hindutva conference held recently where every speaker said they want to dismantle Hinduism. And this conf was supported by 49+ elite US universities.

Checkout on YouTube, type Hindu and you will see only negatives of Hinduism.

Making fun and taunting Hindu traditions is shown as COOL in Bollywood. Add to this the fact that past two generations of Hindu kids aren’t even reading sacred Hindu scriptures, as it’s not important anymore. Even though every major scientist and mathematicians have given credits to Vedas/Upanishads in their major works.

Almost every Hindu festival is getting banned to celebrate but non Hindu festivals get a free hand even if it involves butchering animals or trees.

W r t Kanyadaan, if Kanya was to given as daan then why does Groom comes home with such fanfare to receive this daan and why would we have 7 vachans etc to celebrate the union?

If the Kanya was a daan , why is she even welcomed with grandeur at groom’s home?

If we understand rituals , we would know Kanya had always been a Maan in Hinduism.

Ok enough of chest thumping, don’t want Alia to think that she is trending again.

Growing up never saw any lady with popping sindoor in Gujarati culture. My mom never did that and neither my grandmothers. Sindoor is I think comes from the culture of UP- Bihar.

But people will judge if a married Hindu woman does not wear sindoor, bangles etc..

Whenever I get married I would hate to wear all that along with a western outfit.. I don't like it and hopefully I don't get forced. Or most probably never put on sindoor.. I don't like it..

I don’t agree with either side on this and that’s something coming from a lifelong leftist. Here’s the thing, as an independent, self sufficient woman of modern era, why do you tie your self worth to traditional practices like kanyadaan? Why do you feel the need to attack people who like to participate in these rituals? How is a woman who is okay with this practice or karvachaut or any other female centric practice any less empowered than one who is not? It is all about choice. If the girl wants to let her parents do her kanyadaan, why call it regresssive? If she doesn’t, that’s her choice, too. Why not just take it for what it is? How is the term impacting your life anyway? Now if that tradition was being used to sacrifice virgin girls at the altar, that’s something else. But I don’t see that happening, do you? Anyway, I look at these rituals like I look at Santa Claus. If it ain’t real and it’s just a harmless belief, why does it affect you?
