Context: A police brutality incident similar to the George Flyod incident took place in Tamil Nadu, India a few days ago, and it is in the headlines everywhere. A father-son duo Jayaraj and Bennix were arrested for no fault and then put through custodial torture for four days. The police inflicted the worst kind of abuse, driving up rods up their anuses and mutilating their genitalia, finally resulting in their death. The case has shaken up the country and people are disturbed to the core. The unchecked power given to the police and how they abuse it is being hotly debated now.

The director of the original Singam series has come forward saying he regrets making these films which glorified the police.

How is Article 15 a police propaganda film?

Article 15 is not propaganda. It shows the dark side of police too.

Coming to Ranveer's post, maybe the timing is wrong but that's about it. I don't think it's insensitive or tone-deaf. Sometimes, people operate from a different vantage-point and not everyone is immersed in the same narrative.

He may come across as self-absorbed but that's all we can blame him for. Reading too much into his post is redundant IMO.

Article 15 in no way glorifies the wrong. It shows the dark sinster side of police force.

Ranveer is letting people know that simmba is re-releasing in cinemas in Australia and Fiji, what's wrong in doing that? His film is re-releasing so he is obviously going to promote it.

The production house must have told him to put out a post about it, I dont see anything wrong about him letting people know a film of his is re-releasing. Whether people want to watch it or not its their choice

I also didn't find Article 15 a police propaganda film but it was still problematic for some of its depictions, like the brahmanic saviour complex it suffered from.

But that shouldn't stop us from discussing how brazenly films like Singham and Simmba glorify and romanticize police brutality in the name of entertainment.

What's really worse is Ranveer posting it when the whole country is disturbed with the gory, grotesque details coming out of this incident, which films like these have enabled and emboldened.

Just like you wouldn't have posted a happy post when someone just died, you should read the room and understand the sentiment before posting something like this.

I know fans wouldn't like or understand this (fans like Zara, Gauharageous, etc. are versions of me 5-7 years ago - I have been there and would have defended this then, if my favourite actor were doing it). But I implore them to do a deep introspection and call out their favourites for exhibiting problematic behaviour. It is okay to do that and still love their work.

People are just looking to get offended. Twitter, especially, is one such place where people are having constant breakdowns.

I don't think there is anything tone deaf about his post, he was just talking about it's re-release in Australia. 🤔

But yeah, if people want to get offended, go ahead.

Corrupt and killer cops are viruses, but the job of policemen isn't a virus. So we are gonna forget all the cops who die in the line of duty, put their fcuking life on death for the people who don't even respect them and are always on duty, whether holidays or pandemic, just because some corrupt and sadist motherfcukers misused their powers.

Sorry, I am not in this witch hunting of one of the most under paid, under appreciated duties and thankless job in the world. Especially not from those who have excuses and justification for the terrorists.
