This! Charlize Theron did it in Monster twenty years ago and got the Oscar. We all know what Deepika is chasing and it's no risk for her as she'llmost likely be lauded for her choice of film.

What about the victims who have to live with their scarred face for the remainder of their life ? Deepika can at least get off the mask and pepole know that's not how she looks like.

For me Anupama's statement is offensive to say the least.

It's simple, these people survive the industry on beauty, youth and an consciously crafted image.... Anything against any of these three pillars can break the career if gone wrong....

Yes, there are people who did the same before and they should be lauded as well... But if, for any reason, they weren't, doesn't mean she shouldn't be ..................

I always feel in awe of Christian Bale' s dedication to transform himself for any of his characters.... He goes that extra mile.... Same with Aamir Khan and Ranveer Singh..... Does that mean we shouldn't praise any of them for the efforts they take ??

Let me bite the bullet and say what needs to be said here - If any other actress was playing Malti , she would’ve been applauded for her brave choice . NA and Oscars would be given to her and DP would’ve bashed on sidelines for doing vanity projects like BM and PV.

Had Alia done this - Meryl Streep

Bhumi , Yami or any actress - Wow , so refreshing

Tapsee / Kangana - Oscar winning performance

DP - Nautanki saali

Deepika's beauty is one of her biggest plus points, there's no denying that. So when she has completely given up that for a character the rest of her skill set will be tested thoroughly. It is a clever decision I think. Socially relevant, emotional topic, with an acclaimed director who has given a hit, she gets both critical and commercial success if she has taken the right call.

I think if the film is as good as it promises to be, then this will stand out in her career forever.

So its a very smart choice. I don't think the audience will go for this film looking for beauty, they know what the film is about.

I am sure every actor, who does such roles feels a bit scared, coz for them looking perfect in every shot and doing retakes even if a strand of hair is out of place, is second nature. So whoever would have taken this up would have fleetingly thought about that. But itne special mention (this tweet) ki zarurat nahi hai, no matter who is doing the film.

I say fleetingly coz they also know how much this film will benefit them. You are going for critics appreciation here, rather than seetis from public. They stand to gain more than they lose even if the film doesn't work, so kya problem hai.

The audience is smarter and is prepared to see content driven films.

Ppl who went thru it are not actors. They faced a trauma. It wasn't a choice.

She's actually putting her money, might and face on the line in an industry which is vain and fickle AF.

It is a huge risk since their a section in the industry who'd pay to just watch a stunning face for 2 hours.

I would have agreed to ur post if it was 10years ago... Now ppl do biopic n trauma stories for critical acclaim, NA etc... Dp is after that only... Ppl praise them to sky n give them Un due credit for doing this like Anupama giving to DP...

She is not the first one to do it n invest money too, last year Parvati released a Malayalam movie Uyare which was a hit...
