I remember reading that Sanjeev Kumar was madly in love with her.. He proposed and she refused.. He did not marry ever.. I just cannot help but wonder why hema opted for Dharmender.. I cannot think of any other reason but blind in love and still voluntarily blind in love

Just read about Jaya Prada.. Apparently she married a producer who was already married with three kids.. He rescued her during some tax problems she was having and thus she clung to him for emotional support.. And fell madly in love and married him.. They don't have any children and he too lives with his first wife.. Quite similar to Hema.. A bit more tragic actually since she does not even have kids.. So technically she is all alone..

That is truly tragic.Atleast Hema got her kids and grand kids. I did not know the details of her marriage just heard that she also got married to an already married man.

Most of the yesteryear actresses have really scandalous or tragic personal lives. Very few got to have a normal marital life when they get married.

But from what I have heard, the arrangement has been same ever since they got married.. one takes time to lose interest.. Not to mention that they are still in this weird marriage/arrangement.. Why? I mean clearly Hema does not need his name for stardom or luxuries.. She is practically living on her own and yet still continues with this "marriage" Why? Is it just because of love? or what?

Because she doesn't want to be called a divorcee? A matter of honour now. Maybe he did convert to Islam and then marry her and their marriage is legitimate. In that case, in her heart she knows that their relationship is not illegitimate, whatever be the rumours, and she's okay with that instead of getting divorced and living with that label. Some people are very traditional in their thinking. She said in this article itself that I don't want to disturb anyone's family. I have been able to live with dignity because of devoting myself to art and culture. So, maybe she thinks doing anything different will lead to public humiliation.

Ya.. Most of them fell for married men.. I cannot fathom why.. But Hema's case is most puzzling to me because she was considered the most beautiful woman of her time, had a perfectly nice single man in love with her and wanting to marry her and yet she opted for a half marriage with Dharmender..
Sri's story makes me angry at her
Hema's story on the other hand just makes me puzzled...

Also she said she never would have been able to live the way she has been living her life if she married someone else.

She was willing to live with the label of the other woman, home breaker and all that.. I honestly don't think she would draw the line at being labelled a divorcee..
I don't know.. She invited quite a bit of public humiliation when she married Dharmender..

She wanted to stay on her own for the most part then? I find it hard to believe that she did this out of choice but I guess a lot of things would make sense then. Not choosing Sanjeev Kumar, not asking Dharam to leave his wife, not mingling with Dharam's family. That's pretty radical for a woman of her time no?
