I think she meant her independence.

She was always very independent. Back then most actresses quit acting after they got married but Hema never did even after two children she went on to direct movies, continued dancing, did movies, joined politicss.. etc..

Even when Simi asked her how she used to say that one needs a spouse' ssupport she explained that she meant only to make decsions regarding the children..

Her Rendezvous episode is quite insightful if one has the time should watch it. I watched it a couple of years ago so can't recall everything she said but if I'm not wrong she said she asked Dharmendra to marry her and even though she got a lot marriage proposals.

Also even back then the kids seem to mingle with Dharam's kids because Esha mention how Sunny give her branded sneakers as gifts

I think Hema was so head over heels in love with Dharmendra she just followed her heart. If Rekha could have even she would have settled for such a life but unlike Dharmendra Amitabh is more image conscious I feel.

Dharmendra actually wanted to divorce his first wife she never gave him divorce. So the conversion to Islam and getting married.

Hema Malini, from what I know, has literally eloped from her marriage Mandap! Her parents have arranged her marriage with a successful cricket player, from their own community, but the girl would have none of that and settled for a much married Dharmendra!

His wife did not give him divorce so they stayed married.. Understandable

But he stays with his wife and visits Hema.. Shouldn't it be the other way around if he really wanted to divorce her and be with Hema only?😆

Same here...Why would anybody opt for a lesser life just for love? Or may be we have never experienced 'that kind' of love, yet! 😆

I read somewhere even Jeetendra has proposed to her!

Sanjeev Kumar decided to never marry after she rejected his proposal...As a result Sulakshana Pandit, who was in love with Sanjeev Kumar, also decided to remain unmarried!

We know so much about the other cheating couples like AB Rekha and Sri Boney but not enough about this couple who actually, weirdly enough somehow has the whole car going on three wheels since so many years

Maybe because, Hema Dharmendra were a perfect match personality and looks wise. Public adored their pairing and they did look made-for-each-other. Unlike Sridevi and Boney. Also, the low profile of the first wife made sure dirty linen is not washed in public.
