Well I read in one article, which was admittedly praising Hema a lot, that if Hema needs Dharam she asks but if Prakash refuses or Dharam can't come, then she steps back. She never insists or demands anything. She is the one who has single-handedly raised her daughters. Whatever work it is, she has had to handle herself and she has been very strong.
I don't know why but I believe it. Hema does come across to me as a very strong lady. It's not easy to stay alone, having married a man but still not have any rights over him. Yes, I think she made a big mistake in choosing a married man, maybe she thought Dharam will be as into her as he was before marriage. But like always, marriage changes that man's way of looking at Hema. He's just not as interested in her afterwards. So, he doesn't want to disturb his happy home with Prakash and his 'sons' and lets the other wife handle 'her daughters'. I'm not saying this must be the reason..the gender thing but just struck my mind that sometimes you hear stories of how one wife was the favourite for bearing sons.😕
