It was a good romcom... That's it! But yes I think it was overrated in the sense that it won filmfare awards, SRK for best actor and kajol best actress ?? I think that's the time or era when Filmfare became a joke. And SRK continued doing the same kind of films...

I didn't like HAHk either. But in terms of characterisation, Salman was adorable as Prem whereas SRK as Raj was annoying.

With regard to the female characters, I think Simran was more relatable. A shy girl who has dreams of marrying her Prince charming. Whereas Madhuri as Nisha was portrayed more like a superwoman. She could cook, dance, sing, play instruments and what not. I kind of didn't buy that :)

Nisha was charming. But in terms of martyrdom, the character in HAHK were more so of martyrs then DDLJ. They were willing to sacrifice their love without any questions. The couple in DDLJ at least tried to fight for their love in their own way.

Every blockbuster movie after few years when lots of other ppl have copied it many times , will come across as overrated

Ppl here call Sholay overrated too

Sholay is not overrated at all . Its a complete movie. Again I'll say it for some people it may be nostalgia (I wasnt around so I dont know) and for others they identified with the whole convincing the parents instead of eloping thing. Hridya parivartan if you please...anyone got that reference?? 😆

I found it hard to sit through the entire DDLJ. And I watch 1940s movies also.

not specifically saying only you, but sometimes people tend to do with every movie.
D DLJ isn't a master piece, but I don't think it is an eyesore either, it has certain entertainment value and has a legacy, given how much people have gone on to make skits just based on its dialogues, scenes and plot.

How many movies have literally copied its theme and sub plots and so on.

While I agree when someone calls it the greatest ever, I too cringe, but on general its not a bad movie.

I dont get why trying to convince parents has become an outdated concept.. I mean, I am an educated, modern woman but I would never consider running away an option till the time I am completely hopeless about it all.. I would very much want my parents to be a part of my wedding

Hell, I married a guy I only met once😆 So its not like the concepts shown in the movie are a thing of the past😆
