There was a scene where the ladies were dancing & cooking & llistening to western music but as soon as daddy walked in they switched to some bhajan type song & the sisters took to reading lol! It's like you don't have the right to dream & live your life because of male in the family's ideals. The movie was trying to say that women have the right to live their life in their own way. Except they forgot to give Simran some spine & she waited till daddy agreed and gave in to Raj's stubbornness! Lol!

Compare this to EK Ladki...Sonam's character tells her dad after he says i am ashamed of you that she is not proud of him either! Ouch! Lol!

how times have changed. I was in a school where my best friend was beaten up by about approximately 12 boys everyday since middle school just because he was gay.He came out to his parents just before leaving to the States for college , and his mom and dad took time to accept him but he was eventually accepted. I have seen his struggle and have felt it, the entire journey with everything I had. Im glad this is finally becoming a culture. Love is love and it knows no divisions or boundaries. Always support love. ❤️ Paint it with a rainbow.

Yes movie was NOTHING SPECIAL. I always found HUM AAPKE HAIN KAUN much much more entertaining than this syrupy over rated DDLJ...
No wonder why HAHK is at NUMBER ON (beating sholay, pk, dangal, ghaddar and even bahubali) with adjusted NET business..while the over rated DDLJ is at number FIVE despite been forcefully dragged for decades at one cinema/one show.

SRK jitnabhicunning bannjaye, he can NOT beat salmankhan HUM AAPKE HAIN KAUN that STILL STANDS as the BIGGEST HIT OF INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY EVER.

HAHK isn't a bigger hit than Sholay or Bahubaali as a whole, it is only bigger than Bahubaali Hindi, not Bahubaali as a whole.

Amen! There is nothing important to take from it besides men go for women who know how to dress more femininely.

Nope. When DDLJ came out it broke new ground. It is iconic for a reason. It spoke of freedom to a generation of girls trapped in a newly modernized India.Dads like that actually existed. Marriages were actually fixed like that so for him to let Simran go to live her own life was ground breaking in an age you couldn't even look your father in the eye or argue with him in most Indian communuties.

Yes it has very patriarchal tones but those are the things people actually believed in during the time. The most uncomfortable scene for me will always be how Raj makes Simran feel after her drunken episode. The fact that even after she says she doesn't remember he doesn't stop fooling around is very tone deaf. It hasnt aged well but in the larger context of things DDLJ remains iconic. Indians were finally going out to settle and pursue a life different from their parents back home. Its thankless to compare it to the standards today.

And not just BOI but I read in old magazines from 1994 and 1995as well when HAHK was originally released that it BROKE Sholay's OVERALL business record.

Even srk'smaha chamcha KJO as well stated in Jhalak show that HAHK is the BIGGEST hit of hindicinema till date.

No it broke the net amount. As Sholay's face value net was 15 crores, while HANK was 70 crores plus.
Kinda like how Gadar beat HAHK earning 76 crores, but it's not a bigger hit than HAHK.
Sholay, Bahunaali, Mughal-E-Azam are much bigger hits than HAHK, as they all reached the 10 crores footfall marks.

Thanks for the information. I agree completely with you. Hum Aapke Hain Koun is indeed the biggest hit of Indian cinema.

actually it is not.
Bahubaali, Sholay and Muhgal-E-Azam are bigger hits, as HAHK didn't reached the coveted 10 crores footfall mark in domestic market which only these three movies have done till now.

And mother India too.

DDLJ is not overrated. When it released, the generation at that time identified with the characters. I still loved this movie. I like how it shows that eloping is not an answer. My only regret is that I've never been able to watch it on big screen. I remember how my cousins and I watched the movie 3 times in a row after our 1st viewing. That's how much we loved it!
HAHK is the movie that we can't stand. I don't think it aged well. It was just a wedding video with songs and dance. I remember after watching it I thought what the hell was this! Maine Pyar Kiya and DDLJ are my favourites.
