As RM of BTS turns 31, here is a throwback to when he revealed his father's ambition for him

Today, it is the birthday of BTS leader RM. Born as Kim Namjoon, he is the force behind the music band that has captured global audience. RM was one of the first members roped in to make a hip-hop group, which later changed to an idol group. Born in Seoul, he moved to Ilsan as a kid and lived there for four to five years.

Throughout his academic career, he was a brilliant student. His parents had great hopes of him pursuing a stable career abroad. When he was on the Psick Show, he revealed how his dad had thought he would follow this career path.

RM's father wanted son to become an engineer

RM aka Kim Namjoon has often credited his parents for his success. He believes they gave him a happy and secure childhood that helped him progress quickly in his life. However, BTS started off in a humble manner, with everyone having to struggle a great deal. His parents too advised him to go to college instead of spending days working non-stop with an uncertain future ahead of him.

He had come on the Psick Show where he said his father worked for SK Energy. RM said his parents had hopes he would become a chemical or petroleum engineer and make lots of money. Since he was a good student, they thought it was attainable.

However, RM was deeply influenced by rappers like Nas and hoped to become a song-writer. Seeing her son’s passion for music, his mother got him a microphone. He showed that he was a cut above from the rest from his teenage years. RM/Kim Namjoon became famous in the underground scene of South Korea as a school kid.

On Psick show, he said his father was an engineer and hoped his son would follow his footsteps. The leader of BTS is known as the ‘superstar son’ in his family. He loves to pamper his parents and is very close to his dad.
