@pallavi: overrated in what sense? Do people(apart from those stupid twitter fans he has) call him the bigger star than the Khans?? Yes that would be overrating him, other than that, I don't know why placing him above the likes of Ranveer or Ranbir or Ajay or anyone is overrating.

And Besharam didn't held better, while it had more screens than Gold still got less than 7 crores and unlike Gold didn't peaked up in the weekend and crashed. While Gold went on to do a 35crores business in the weekend. With trade even saying that if it was not for Akki, the business in single screens and small centers would have been worse given the non-massy premise of the movie and strong competition from Satyamave Jayate in the small centers. So yes Akki does have a stardom which while may not be as huge as the Khans but still is bigger than anyone.

Akki's problem is that he does too many movies in a year. He's easily available to the audience, unlike the Khans. So the audience doesn't find it necessary to watch his every film in theater. Hence, the box office collections of his movies get divided.

He's also not doing movies for the masses. Padman was based on a taboo subject. Gold was only liked by metro-city audience. His other movies didn't have a grand feel like the Khan films. The collections of his movies are actually huge considering the type of films they were. Put any other unknown actor in place of Akki, the collections will maximum reach 60 Crores.

Akki needs to do big-budget films with a grand feel to get those huge collections, which people expect from a Superstar. He's definitely not overrated. People don't call him bigger than the Khans, but he's a bigger star than the likes of Hrithik, Ajay, Ranbir and Varun.

Also he needs to stop doing these preachy deshbhakti movies. Don't know about general audience, but I'm really tired of it.

Star power itself is overrated, he is a star going by his fan following doesn't matter about the box because that aint intrinsically linked to stardom you can be a big star but still not have box office pull as well. So he is a star in terms of his big fan following
