That minuscule numbers define TV content in India. It actually does not represent what most Indians want to see. Besides tastes differ across regions and strata. Most Indians are plain lazy to bother about it. Until they speak up the pathetic/regressive/nonsensical/weird content shall be continued to be forced down upon.

Mercifully news media is little less affected.

Agree, my family prefers watching comedy shows in free time.. But there are very few sensible ones on TV right now..

With social media in picture now, does the TRP play the same role as before?
I remember the last serial I loved watching was Iss Pyaar ko kya naam doon.. It didn't have much TRP ratings, but the social media hue and cry when Arnav left the serial was so much that they had to shut it down altogether.. So more than TRP ratings I think there should be something which can take into consideration the opinions of online junta as well.. Today there are very few people(atleast in the urban areas) who don't voice their concerns or opinions on social media.

+1000 on historical shows.. There is no freaking accuracy.. Even they are stretched to no limits.. I remember watching one Jodha Akbar promo, where there was one naag kanya who poisons Akbar with her zeher.. like really 😆

I just saw a promo of some jaadu like alien saying we are here to take some heroine of some zee show... And i was yelling - le jaaoo... Inn sab faltus ko le jaao...

Then there was a show where there was a kabaddi match between the heroine and the naagin... Seriously, kabaddi match!!!

Yesss to eye sex *high five *... Bec once they get married then it's just saas ka atyaachaar

I watched couple of episodes of POW & it was so well done. Stands out more from this absymal POS shows they have on telly!!! Mahi Way & Rishta.Com were such good, nice shows but nothing like the 90s era. Truly the Golden Era of Indian Telly which will never return.

Like someone said... We are not the target audience... Tv is not geared towards the metropolitan jantaa... I remember hearing an interview of a channel head... He said that the target was the tier 3 and tier 4 towns .. Not the urban metropolis

Exactly, the TV shows in 90s had such progressive content.. I remember watching this serial Choti si Asha with my family.. The female lead had to give away her three kids for adoption when her husband passes away. The way she picks up her life after that and her struggle to see one far away glimpse of her kids when they are all grown up.. Limited episodes and to the point..

We can only wish that such shows make a comeback.. but reality is TV is mainly for reality shows these days and content u can get from web shows... Aint no one got the time to watch an entire show at a particular time with full dedication.. But a good show for family viewing during lunch/dinner is the least I expect from TV now..

The reason ITV will never get out of saas bahu stuff is b/c TRP..
Indian channels don't produce a show.. they only air it so if a producer has to make money.. it needs to get TRPs making the channel continue to air it and get the invested money back.
At the end of the day it has to bring back money so if EK can still sell out Naagin/the bhagyas. Why not. It's making her money.. b/c channels carry no risk even when they lose 20 shows. And as a producer she's playing it smart.
Anyway the TRP gyaan is not mine. A friend told me that once.

Only 2 good shows on tv right now- both on sony - yeh pyar nahi to Kya hai & ye un dino ki baat hai.
Unfortunately both of them are too late in the night and not advertised properly.

This seems like a nice concept...these days we have shows that make mockery out of surrogacy with surrogate mothers getting attached to the child to the extent of referring to the kid as 'my kid',the society humiliating her because she has another man's kid in her womb() or even surrogate mother and biological father falling for each other.
