It's humongously unfair that for TV viewing audience of 780 million ( 78 Cr) plus , there are ONLY 30,000 metered houses for BARC ratings.
That minuscule numbers define TV content in India. It actually does not represent what most Indians want to see. Besides tastes differ across regions and strata. Most Indians are plain lazy to bother about it. Until they speak up the pathetic/regressive/nonsensical/weird content shall be continued to be forced down upon.
Mercifully news media is little less affected.
Agree, my family prefers watching comedy shows in free time.. But there are very few sensible ones on TV right now..
With social media in picture now, does the TRP play the same role as before?
I remember the last serial I loved watching was Iss Pyaar ko kya naam doon.. It didn't have much TRP ratings, but the social media hue and cry when Arnav left the serial was so much that they had to shut it down altogether.. So more than TRP ratings I think there should be something which can take into consideration the opinions of online junta as well.. Today there are very few people(atleast in the urban areas) who don't voice their concerns or opinions on social media.
