Is Indian Television really down in dumps?

Right now, the answer is definitely yes, with all the never ending saas-bahu sagas and the new supernatural entrants like Naagin, Bramharakshas etc.
But was it like this always?
There are many underrated shows, like the YRF shows with limited episodes which came way back in 2010, Powder, Mahi way, Rishta etc. then there are comedy shows like Sarabhai, Khichdi, Family no. 01... Youth shows like Hip Hip Hurray, Just Mohabbat, Remix etc. Indian television has explored a little I feel.. and now the web content has so much variety to offer.. I think the majority is on internet today with very limited viewing restricted to television.
I agree there can be no comparison to American TV shows but I have heard people praise Korean Pakistani, Turkish dramas so much.. I have not seen much of them expect the few popular ones, but they always deal with the same family and relationship issues.. Extra marital affairs, Office romance etc. Only thing unique is they wind up in 20-25 episodes, otherwise the themes are the same.. So why are those shows considered high in standard and rarely criticized. Has Indian television never offered anything new or fresh concept wise?

People still watch TV?
šŸ˜†

It's been years since I've surfed cable beyond music/travel/science/news channels :p

My mom watches Pakistani drama, she has got tired of those too. She no more finds anything interesting enough.. We started watching an old TV serial again though.

I've also lost interest in American TV long ago..

Anime, my friend, is the future šŸ˜›

I'm sorry I'm just in a talkative mood... ignore my post.

If people choose to watch these shows, then there is no point to blame anyone. Look at the TRP of Naagin 3, it got 4+ TRP and it shows how much people are interested to watch it.

Even I don't watch TV anymore šŸ˜† Was just curious.. Just watched a few YRF shows on net and they were really good, so I wondered if there is anymore content like this.

About Pakistani dramas, I watched 3-4 popular ones, they were good.. but even though they wound up in 20-25 epis, I found them a bit slow, and most of them dealt about same family issues, so was wondering why it is so highly praised

Have never watched anime as such.. Anything u can suggest with good simple story for a beginner? šŸ˜›

I enjoyed Naagin 3's first episode. It was hilarious funny & entertaining. Try watching it. šŸ˜†

On Topic: it always has been.. good shows barely lasts. As due to low TRP, the channel pulls them off air abruptly. The last show good i watched was Dil Sambhal Zara.. but network cancelled it abruptly due to low TRPs.

So as long as Indian viewers keeps watching these crappy/trashy shows like Naagin 3/Kundali Bhagya etc.. the trend will never end. As makers/channels care about business.. & will keep bringing shows that works.

I watched a couple of pak shows... Beyond the very famous ones like zgh most of them are just like the condensed version of indian shows...

Bechhari naari duniya ke bojh ki maari... Also bec of the short format, the misery is relentless... Atleast humaare mein har 2 weeks baad koi festival toh hota hai :)

Korean, japanese, Chinese shows over some variety. You have the same old love stories but also crimes, thrillers, medical, legal, historical shows so its fun

Apni problem yeh hai ki hum agar historical show bhi banayenge toh bhi uss mein saas bahu drama daal denge..

It's 2018 and you are still recounting shows from 2010.
The only show my family watches is belan wali bahot on colors.
Unfortunately that has also been cancelled.

Giving dus ka dum try now.

In 90s, when TV was still a luxury, there were some really potent and sensible shows..I loved Banegi Apni Baat (college kids drama), Hasratein (bold take on extra marital affair), Astitva, Kora Kaagaz etc.. Dekh Bhai Dekh, Hum Paanch etc
It truly got destroyed with Ekta's Mihir death resurrection act in Kyunki and there was no looking back. To that extent I dont blame Ekta, because the public went nuts and demanded Mihir to come back and probably dint let her tell the story she wanted to tell..but post that, Indian TV has only gone through a downward spiral and is almost on its last legs...

Reason why good shows like YRF ones on Sony or POW did not work, was because the audience is watching shit like Naagin and Bhagyas..

Eventually digital content will rule. I dont remember the last time, I saw anything on TV..mostly glued to Netflix these days.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++
Pak Tv industry bloomed when Umera Ahmed/ Farhat Ishtiaq shows come/ came..currently it is also going through a shoddy patch..all the Ekta/ Gul tropes are being used in their current shows as well..which is unfortunate, their shows were refreshing because they were realistic and devoid of unnecessary glamour and senseless romantic scenes

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

It is.It is.It is.
You know indian tv is down in the dumps when bepannaah is considered a content driven show meant only for the intellectuals.
The audience is down in the dumps too.

Arey that's because I watched the 2010 wala shows now in 2018. šŸ˜† They were definitely ahead of its time.
Reality shows are the only options left on TV.. Bigg Boss Marathi is what my family is hooked to these days 🄱
