SLB's biggest hit is Padmavat, it has both more footfalls and adjustes gross than Devdas.And Devdas was his worst movie apart from Ram Leela and Saawariya.
And SLB didn't had a hit since 2002, so its true he needed Deepika for his first hit since Devdas. Ranveer is just a lucky beneficiary.

@Moon, Devdas was a huge hit.

It made nearly 200 crores if we count it in today's rate.
So was HDDCS which in today's time would be as huge 170crs.


So SLB did had huge hit befores but he was irrelevant for nearly a decade before getting Deepika-Ranveer pair.

I was talking about Ram Leela, it was Deepika who evaluated both Ranveer and SLB with her popularity.

Seems that some posters intense dislike of Ranveer makes them overlook anything that is posted in a correct manner.

What I wrote is right. He had successes, but never gave 100 cr + movies.Or 300 cr +. He never got commercial acclaim as he gets now.

HDDCS, Black and Devdas were his only other commercially viable movies. Even so, they didn't mint money. He was greatly criticised even for those by some..many even now say none of his movies post Khamoshi were great. Most of his movies were either average or flops.

There is an interview (Anupama I think) where SLB himself says he was written off by Ram-Leela time.

At that time 100cr+ movies rare. Also the budget of those films were less than RL or Padmavat 😛
