You know, I'm surprised no Indian actress has jumped into this yet. With the success of Kim and Kylie's make-up lines in the West, an Indian actress pulling off a good line of make-up that is reasonably priced that the Indian middle-class can afford it would sell well. Especially it's well tailored for Indian skin tones and offer better ranges in terms of color than Western brands do.

Everyone has jumped onto the clothing bandwagon which I don't get at all. DP's line is so awful in terms of practicality. So much skin showing and huge slits and open backs and weird stuff that average Indian girls can't really wear. I would love to see some numbers to see how much this stuff really sells. 😕

its not about houseful boards for their movies, . its about the impact of your first appearance on red carpet. you are given an opportunity to make the noise, everything needs to come in perfection.

ash in that mustard gold saree, during devdas premier killed it. and that's how you do it. even Julia Roberts went wow and later when Oprah splashed her face on her show, you could hear the sighs...I don't think ash had to work hard, try maybe 100 dresses, makeup artists, yada...its just that she does have that face...which did wonders. and aren't we glad that she walked in a saree and stole the show in her very first outing.

so no matter how many times you going to try, if you were unable to make that impact in your first outing...jao bhaago.

I think that saree got a thumbs down int he fashion circles. Because I remember reading that in her 5-6th Cannes look, she finally got it right and how her previous ones were such let downs. But I always thought that was strange because I loved that saree and her in it.

Sonam's Rheeson is the one which is impractical. DP's line is actually much better. At least, it seems like that to me and not because I like her. I like Sonam too and was really looking forward to her clothing label but I just can't buy even one item from it. It is too weird. And about showing too much skin, these days, at least in Delhi, girls are wearing everything especially the students.

^Ash is god-gifted with beauty so it's unfair to judge others by her standards. Almost nobody would be able to make that impact if she's the one they have to be compared to.

DP used to be pretty; sometimes she looked stunning with that glowing bronzed skin. But now she's a mess. Her face has just lost it all. I think now she would require impeccable styling and make-up to make some impact but it never goes right for her. Katrina is also a lost cause. I saw some pap pics of her 2-3 days ago and she looks like a different person.

Loreal should have ideally chosen someone they way they did with Sonam earlier. Don't go after fame. Choose a new face that will be impactful or at least serves a different demographic. Someone mentioned Athiya and that sounds perfect. Her face is VERY odd looking but that's why it would work. She looks like a quirky international supermodel - very skinny, very tall, unusual face. Or go in the other direction and get someone like Alia that can appeal to teenagers but she is already with Maybelline.

Katz took the L'Oreal assignment like any other BW assignment and thought everyone will fall at her feet like the Indian movie goers do... but she looks anything but ordinary or maybe even below par for a RC... her overconfidence made her fall flat on her bloated face...

True, moreover it would be a good market. Maybe some of them can't launch their make up brand because of an association or another with a cosmetic brand or maybe it's a too much of an investment to launch their own brand.

People make fun of Anushka for buying her clothes in China but just imagine how much of a catastrophe it would be if it had been make up? The lack of quality would be more glaring (stickyness, lasting effect, side effects, texture...) and maybe that could cause a sanitary incident.

But seeing how Rihanna managed to make good products that became instantly popular (it gained $72 in one month) it would be worth the investment (R&D, marketing...)

😆 don't know whether it got thumps down or not, but like I said, I don't think ash tried 100s of dresses, and hair stylish. if you have it, you don't need thumps up for your dress, hair, makeup, etc...you can just kill it with what you really have. 😆

seriously, in Aussie land, Melbourne is other home, and my current home Canada, and very close to USA, every other month i find myself there as well, whenever its talk of Bollywood beauties, only one name pops up, that's ashwariya rai. i don't like her as an actor, but she tops mann. right now. pc also well known now, ppl do know her. but other than that...like sonam, dips, kangs, kats, WHO??

oh well ...go prance on red carpets...till its all over. enjoy ladies, its fun!

I feel they should either have gone for Kangana (who would have been a different Indian beauty) or Athiya (because of the age bracket and stunning look, she has a good fashion sense too). But I think Athiya is with Maybelline too (or used to be).

I don't think Alia would have been a good fit for Cannes RC she's average at best (even if pretty) and looks juvenile.
