It is not!! Why allow rapists this excuse? If 10 people watch po*n and 1 rapes someone then why didn't the other 9 also? Because watching po*n cannot make you want to hurt someone, only your sick mentality can.

It's not po*n but lack of free interaction between men and women which causes rape. Even in urban metro cities I know people who cannot accept the concept of date. Live in is a direct way to hellhole according to them. The more restriction is there for men and women to know each other, to influence each other in a better way, rape is not gonna stop. po*npgraphy has nothing to do with it.

Po*n might be one of the reasons but the primary reason is illiteracy,the inability to judge between right and wrong. Over pampering of male child right from the beginning at homes also contributes,which lets them believe that they can get away with just about anything.And ofcourse Power, be it political power or power that comes from money ..

Any man who watches po*n and thinks that stuff is okay to do on a woman is an idiot! Especially when it is the down and dirty rough stuff. Sex education is important and men and women should be taught properly not just about reproduction in school. If anything rapists are just sick and have a sick mentality. I mean, there are so many people in India and I am sure many are not well educated and taught right and wrong in sex and most likely repressed.

Yes in India it is banned to distribute or broadcast it. Owning such material is also not allowed but individual viewing is allowed.

While the culture itself does not prohibit it but it does not promote it either. At best its left to private conversation or matter. During ancient times the society was more open and allowed space for one's sexuality but over the years the society has became more repressive for various reasons like invasions and foreign rule.

Now the society is in a dilemma or evolving stage where its not clear whether to open up or remain enclosed. On one hand the men are given free hand to fulfill their desires but women are prohibited from the same. So those women who fulfill their desires are looked down upon and sometimes outcast while men are applauded for the same. The bias in viewing the same action is one of the causes of such behavior. The male child right from birth is made to feel wanted and desired and all wishes are fulfilled. Parents make the child feel like a prince and indulge in all kinds of demands. They don't realize that when the child from being the Raja beta grows up to become Rakshas beta. In some families the father hits the mother and the child grows to think that this is acceptable behavior and women are supposed to be ill treated. The male child feels he owns the world and women will fall to his feet to fulfill his demands but when the same does not happen. he gets frustrated and at times violent. The boys grow up with an environment where girls are taken to be their servants and to fulfill all their desires. The male supremacy is inculcated deeply to the extent of demi-God status.
On the other hand the girl child grows up with restrictions and controlled environment. She is asked to keep away from male and shun any kind of advancement including courtesy talks. She has made dependent on even small things. So while male is left free the girl is chained. Now when such a male hits on such a female who refuses him, the male feels his ego is hurt and the actions thereon are criminal- from acid attacks to rapes to making MMS and murder.

On viewing po*n, yes it encourages or provokes such pervert man to fulfill their sexual desires. The videos cover smaller age groups too and the man lacks the understanding that a child's organs are not developed fully for sexual encounter.

A recent case is there where a 22 man addicted to po*n raped his own 46 yr old mother! Police case was filed and man is arrested.

The values inculcated in the male child has to be checked upon and they have to be corrected. Discipline, control, responsibility and respect have to be taught to males. The values and principles need to be inculcated in the male child.
Unless the society takes the responsibility to change this, the crimes against women ( including girls) shall continue.
