50%. His mom Neelima Azeem is Muslim. His dad Pankaj Kapoor is Hindu. His mom had custody after the divorce.

I'm not sure what he believes/practices on a personal level.

BW Forum can turn everything into religious debate. Bas kar lo bhai. Aap kisi ki bhi soch nahi badal rahe. Everything and everyone are gonna be same even if this thread reaches 50 pages. 😆

Lekin yeh aaj kal ki generation. Villain ki deewani ban gai hai. Hamare jamane mein villain - villain hota tha. Aur Hero - hero. Hum yeh ulta pulti nahi karte the.

PS -- Can't believe I am feeling like an old generation already.

All kings were brutal & ruthless. If you were not, you didn't I survive. As illustrated by many Rajput kings. The fact of the matter is that viewing these stories from a modern eye, does no-one any good. What is more bothersome is the constant chanting of glorification of a certain caste & the Islamophobia that the film is peddling, along with the depiction of Khilji as an evil ruler, while juxtaposing him with the saintly, "white" Hindu ruler- Its also as reductionist & boring, as it can get.

I wish everything had been more subtle & RS' Khilji was more restrained. He just looks extremely silly jumping about in the trailer. While he had many concubines & wives, so did all the other rulers, including Rawal Ratan Singh, irrespective of religion, all rulers & noblemen did. It was not only a sign of high-status & wealth, that they could have the fiscal resources to maintain such large harems, but also a matter of practicality- Fertile women meant chances of producing more male heirs that could ascend to the throne & carry on the king's lineage. I see nothing wrong with it however repulsive I find it, because I do not judge that era from my value-system.

What annoys me also, is how unkept, unruly & vulgar Khilji has been purposely shown as when he was ANYTHING BUT! AFAIR, he also had a Hindu wife, Kamala Devi, which was to be portrayed by ARH & must've been changed to Meherunnisa to keep the crazy fundamentalists away. I wish we could see that relationship because from the snippets history shows us, it seemed like a genuinely loving & deep relationship where Khilji sent part of his army to find her long-lost daughter & she herself seemed fascinating- Shrewd, intelligent, beautiful & didn't commit Jauhar & went against the norm to live with a Muslim ruler who subjugated her Hindu king-husband & soon became Khilji's favourite queen!

EXACTLY. This is the kind of divisive rhetoric peddled by religious bigots themselves to feel victimized. Instead of looking at the bigger picture (that he's a barbaric invader), people are make a furor over trivialities like Khilji's looks, eating habits yada yada. Who the fudge cares if he's a lover of art or a philistine or that he had impeccable table manners?

TM: Yes, Shahid is half-Muslim. Dad is Hindu, Maa is Muslim, Neelima Azimi. Which is why I feel Mira wore a paasaa at their reception lunch in Delhi.. Anyway, I think he follows a Hindu order which is why he turned a pure vegetarian & has very strict rules to follow which is what he does. He met Mira through this spiritual order since she & her family practice it too.

There are two sides to a coin. You have to look at both sides. If not you have not realized the full value of a coin.

A study of history requires such a holistic view. History demands that we give/take credit based on the merit of each action. A holistic view does not mean sympathy or glorification. It is neutral at best.

And looking at the whole picture does not mean not coming to an objective conclusion. In the case of Khilji, he was a brutal and cruel invader. In the case of Hitler, he committed mass genocide. These are undeniable facts even if we give credit.

I agree but I am not watching a documentary on Khilji's life history nor am I taking history lessons. I do not mind if Indian filmmakers choose to not portray invaders in a nuanced way. It's the auteur's vision that matters.

I disagree.

It has spiraled into dark territory. But I don't believe in point of no returns. Anything can be resolved of people be willing.

Censorship is also wrong. I think the freedom to freely express dissenting and offensive opinions is essential. It is important for people to have their opinions and beliefs questioned and dragged over the coals. It improves critical thinking and the ability to defend ones thought process. What's the point of any knowledge if you never realize why you stand for it.

The only time a thread should be locked is if it devolves into actual legitimate privacy violations or threats/calls for sexual/racial/religious violence.

I know the members here.. Comments like members here support terrorism will only escalate now because the said members will not back off
I have no issues with Khilji discussion.. Even the discussion in the other PV thread was acceptable but this, no... When a member here says that any member here supports terrorism and is no less than a terrorist and no one seems to find it objectionable, the thread is worthy of being closed as far as I am concerned.. This is a point of no return.. Have seen it during ADHM.. Have no intention or yearning to revisit it
