What is the reason for it ?

He is living in India , his family is in India , belong to top 1% of the country financially.

So why he did it ?

Why didn't he liked being Indian ?

Cause he loves Canada more. He said na that he wants to live there after retirement.

It's his RIGHT to choose to become a citizen of any country he likes.

As for why, that's no one's business. So many Indians migrate to other countries even if not for studies or job or anything, they choose to live in other countries, do we question them all?

We have so many expats here in India, do we question them?

Sorry L, I don't mean to be rude... just saying :( I've been seeing this criticism of his citizenship and think it's really unfair to keep pointing at that aspect of his life.. how does it all matter, and why is he answerable to any of us for his choices... he's not harming anyone..

it's his choice but can't stand his hypocrisy, first lying that he is "honorary citizen" second trying to act like the biggest desh bhakt ever, i liked him before his pre propaganda movies

He is living here ,and we can clearly assume he is not leaving the country any soon.

Migration is different , he is not leaving the country yet given up his citizenship.

He get criticism for it is because he is lying constantly about this.

If it is not a big deal why just he don't say yes I am Canadian now , why lying about dual citizenship.

Your question can be answered by none other than Akki himself!

He has all the rights and freedom to make his own choices. It's not illegal and doesn't make him anti-nationalist. And no one can question his intentions or patriotism based on some legal papers. But...but hailing him as 'ultra-nationalist' for his jingoistic films and abusing Khans on the other hand is what is going to spoil the atmosphere.

I don't have issues with his individual choices. What I find problematic is his blatant lies and his dishonest ways to promote a false image to save his fan base in India. During a recent media interaction when questioned about his Canadian citizenship he said 'it's honorary'. Canada can give honorary status to celebrities only if their parliament approves and they have issued it to only 5 or 6 around the world. And everyone knows India doesn't permit dual citizenship.

Yes, he was offered Canadian citizenship and he accepted it, perhaps a good back-up plan on his part. But irony is that he is always considered to be a true Indian while Khans don't enjoy that privilege.

It has nothing whatsoever about not loving your country. Some passports r a hell of a lot more valuable in traveling and other stuff simply to begin with and many other benefits. Most people don't even want to give up their birth country citizenship but that country forces their hands by not recognizing dual citizenship. So you have to make a choice that makes more sense to you as in what is more beneficial to you and your kids for their higher education etc

I just don't understand what the issue is! If only dual citizenship was accepted by India they i'm pretty sure would never willingly let go of it.

Alia isn't given any crap about it? Nor is Imran and AFAIK DP has a foreign passport too. So what?
They were born to Indian parents (either on Indian soil or not) and live in India and work in the same country try earn and spend in that same country and try to give back to the society in their own ways maybe through charity.
Why is this such a huge issue!

He doesn't probably wanna tell the clear truth just cz of such people who make a song and dance over something that's not even important! Just for business or personal reasons if they pick another passport over this one it doesn't mean being disloyal to the birth and living country! 😕

And I'm not even a fan
