👏 Bingo ! Couldn't have explained it better on why I find this SO damn regressive too. There are some more rituals we have where only mothers keep fast for their children and fathers don't (e.g. Neelshashti etc). I dont get why children's wellbeing need to be protected by only mothers by keeping fast and why fathers don't need to do that.

Anyways, applaud TK for standing upto that filthy Open Letter which involved her family (if one can call it a letter and not a personal attack).

Other party should not take someone talking about some practice of the same religion they belong to as an attack on their religion and should stop giving bhao to these pubicity hungry people.

Regarding the fireworks, it should be probably like 4th of July where a community gets together and watches firework for 10 mins or so. In India the bursting of crackers starts at dusk and goes on till 4 or 5 am. Especially in Delhi. Its just showing off of burning your money. N its not just one day, its min 3 days Diwali.

Anonymous person may be vicious. But Twinkle unnecessarily has been mocking Hindu faiths. Faith is just that, "faith". Believe it? Do it. No faith? Don't do. But don't preach/mock. Get off your high horse.

There is no practice of KC in my family. It is simply not there? Will that give me eligibility to criticise? Never. Every practice is up to the believer, as long as they are not harming themselves or others. One day fast will not harm most. May be educate the pregnant women (if at all they do). Otherwise, leave them with their practice.

For those who say Hinduism is constantly evolving. True. We adapt. But how many of our changes are wilful and how many are enforced? We believed, body should not be disfigured even after death. (That's why, prayers were not offered to idols which were disfigured). Now we join organ donation. This is not forced. As a kid, I enjoyed bursting cracker. Once came to the age of taking board exams, lost interest in it. After a decade, when a young life came home, fun started again. It is a cycle.

I do not like to be imposed. Those who are concerned about pollution, let them quit their luxury cars for a day and travel by public transport (as compensation), instead of preaching.

Very well said.

Mindsets who believe men are superior and worth more than women will continue to mock some one who have a different opinion.

Some times it's women who believe they are second citizens in this world. Sad, they dont even know they are in a mess.

If both partners do any fast/tradition out of love, I have no problems. There are plenty of men in this world who treat their women equally and with respect, not as second citizens who are bound to cook /laundry and do all work for them.
