I think twinkle is entitled to her opinion on everything. That cannot offend religion or it's followers. This is needed to make religion more accepting and evolving.

I hate crackers on Diwali but I am wary of bans because that sets a bad precedent and Govts.,Courts end up making absurd bans like beef ban and such. I hope people genuinely eschew crackers etc.

On KC , I hope the practice becomes a choice for many women.

Btw, does this bimbo ever realize whom she is calling earthworms are the major source of funding for her designer life style and those supporting her rants have never and will never give two hoots about her husband's movies and are always eager to run down his career, his good efforts for social causes and refuse to even call him a superstar?

Why only twinkle?
I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you want to make religion more accepting n evolving do it in a sensible manner. She starts mocking women every year for keeping KC. Ab uski ma ke itne saare the kiske liye woh APna virat rakhegi toh usne apni beti ko ulti sidhi batein sikhayee aur wohi yeh tweeter pe ratte ja rahi hai.

Uski aisi harkato se baaz aake agar uske husband ne yaha waha muh marna shuru kar diya toh isko aur ek bahana mil gya KC ko hate Karne ka.

Isme religion ko kyu bich mei la rahe ho?

Most religions have been around for centuries. Our world has changed drastically since then. There are many things we know better now. Society works differently. In this light, it is essential for a religion to evolve. People ought to critically think, question practice, and update archaic traditions for the benefit of society. I do not think evolving faith is anti-religion.
Growing up in India, Diwali evokes fond memories. I think of shopping, sweets and of course spending hours bursting firecrackers with friends. Imagining Diwali without fireworks is difficult for me. If I were a child, I might have even thrown a hissy fit.

However, I understand how crackers are detrimental to our health and environment. Many of our cities are already covered in a thick dense smog of pollution. Fireworks add to that existing pollution. Some of the chemicals used to create colors in fireworks are more dangerous than other pollutants. Not to add noise pollution that can often be traumatic to animals, children and some developmentally disabled humans.

The funny thing is that fireworks have no place in the historic Hindu tradition.Recorded celebrations of Diwali date back to the first century BC. Gunpowder was not invented till 300 AD in China under the Jin dynasty. But it was not until 7th century AD, that fireworks were first made under the Tang Dynasty. Public sale of fireworks did not occur until 1100 AD under the Song dynasty. It was not until the 17th century that colonial powers imported fireworks across the globe. So fireworks are the least Hindu aspect of Diwali. They are a Chinese import brought to us by our former colonial masters.

I am torn about the ban. While I think it is a good measure, I see why a ban is problematic and infringes on individual liberty. But then at what point do we curb liberty for greater good - that is a tricky question with no good answer.

As for Karwa Chauth, there is no denying that the tradition is rooted in patriarchy. It stems from a culture where the man is more important and the woman has to make sacrifices for his well being. Of course, the practice is evolving in modern times. Many women do it out of choice. Many men are participating as well. For many families, the practice is becoming obsolete. I think it is still important to keep raising our voice against it so that change continues to happen.

I agree a 100% with Twinkle. The backlash on Twitter against supporters of the ban was vile. Perhaps she should not have resorted to name calling, but its tough.

Most community fireworks are hardly ever more than 20 mins. They sell fireworks in US too but you hardly hear sounds like Laxmi bomb or mega bomb in India. Diwali is just not about fireworks, do more than that in 3 days. Eat more, enjoy more with friends and family, play cards, pray more. Definitely better than bursting crackers and burning money.

BTW 9tanki did your old ID get banned?

Cricket was brought in Britisher, yet people love that game in sub continent. They were times whole community use to sit together and enjoy the game. nobody forced the game on anyone and no one googled to check if the game was played by britisher. now people dont have that kind of craze. thats just the game, now for diwali, its festival that kids enjoy most. as adult we are think about whats good/bad use our brain, since we had fun as kid why not new gen kid have fun and let them decide whats good for them.
what exactly they do on kc ? KC is like a reset button for married couple, whose life become boring after a while, they dress up like newly wed and live the moment again. so whats wrong in it ? if wife gives importance to husband, by fasting or praying for him, who r we to decide what should they do?

If you go by this logic, next argument will be, why should women leave their home after marriage, why should they walk around marriage or cremate dead.

Those who don't like they just don't like. You can't argue and make them to like what you do.
kyu bheja fry karke khud ka time waste karna.
These people will oppose everything that is dear to you and you will be spending your entire life clarifying and justying to them about your choices.

Do you seriously wanna do that?

Agree with her

Adopting Husband's name and surname after marriage and leaving ur own causes this Vansh issue (No boy no Vansh Bcz Girls will change their surnames after the marriage and their kids will get their husband's name so we want a boy ) hence killing of girl child so I am so so so against it and I find it so regressive ...

Abt firecrackers ... Diwali was never abt firecrackers to begin with ...all this started hardly hmmm 40-60 years back only right ?

Diwali is about Diyas, Puja, Mithai and happiness

lol my grandmom is 95 she too remembers bursting crackers in her childhood so it definitely did not start 40 -60 yra ago but even more than that .
As i already said people wouldn't have protested if they banned crackers throughout the year. Their outrage is only against a selective ban on diwali.

You may enjoy playing card, for some it might be gambling, which morally people don't do it. btw how much time average person/kid burst firecracker on diwali ? they cannot keep bursting cracker for 5 hour - 12 hour.

My apologies to 9tanki then. You think only kids burst crackers? No its the youth, adults, seniors too. It goes on till wee hours in the morning. Playing cards without money is not gambling. And if they gamble too its their own loss or gain, not societies.
