For the local people she is sacred and as I said in my other post (in another Padmavati related thread) even if she is a fictional character, the practice of Jauhar among Rajput women when attacked by Muslim rulers (including mass suicide in Chittorgarh by Rajput women when attacked bu Khilji army) did happen, there is historical evidence...
So maybe people see her as a symbol of that sacrifice

@bold- True. Especially after 1900s, Padmavati became a famous symbol for heroic sacrifice to inspire during our freedom struggle. Agree about the historical evidence, the original stories could not have been complete fantasy, and lot of the narrative in the story did happen in the past, including the Jauhar practice.
