In addition to what Desigal said, JHMS had Bollywood's interpretation of loud, buoyant love of people in their 20s. I don't have a problem with SRK-Anu pairing per se. You just need to refine the story a bit.
The same JHMS with SRK and a divorced Anu, or a single mom, would have added another angle. If the Khans are to star in out-and-out romance, the romance has to be age-appropriate. The definition of romance is different for a teenager, people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and so on.
This stereotypical version of romance that Bollywood loves to shove down our throats makes an already weak product look worse.
JHMS was such a missed opportunity. It could have been a soft, mature romantic drama - a "coming of age" story for people who are already of age but are lost and bruised.
The same actors as Suri and Taani were warm and relatable. Even if Raj was loud, it fit in the overall mood of the film. It was such a joy - to watch the husband and wife come together in an arranged marriage.
I don't quite get why every Bollywood rom-com has to be loud, washy, and wacky these days. There is absolutely no subtlety anymore. It's as if everyone is a horny and stupid 17-year-old from a stereotypical American high school rom-com.
Love is also respect. It's a journey to one another. It's about appreciation. Bollywood was good at dishing out such romances. I'm not sure what's happened lately. Everything rom-com ends up becoming about harmones, with ALL the cliches of a YA novel forged into it.
Handsome, lost guy - with a painful past - meets awesome, quirky girl - who is unlike any girl he's met before (but is like every other girl); romance ensues, and with it, they come to find themselves.
Apparently SRK fan called Ram Sharma leaked the movie online https://x.com/salmanicarman/status/1906265773946880184?s=46...

Oh my God. This is way too cute 🥰 yes Srk raised Aryan so well but not all sons/daughters show such respect towards their parents. Just love...
