i think shah and mahira suited each other. she did her role with maturity and she actually looked nice, especially in the songs.

Saw the movie. She was nothing extraordinary. Same old, predictable expressions. Her role had zero scope and was rather annoying.

Funnily she is discredited a lot because she was in Humsafar (and it has a lot to do with the never ending ZGH vs Humsafar war - how difficult is it to appreciate both the shows for their worth - who knows!🥱)..and she wasnt even bad in that show..
anyway she has really polished her skills in other dramas like SEZ and Bin roye..

though its true that she wasnt anything special in Raees..but she wasnt as bad as critics made her out to be! also she looked beautiful all through..(considering how much she is mocked for her nose and lips here!)!

This discussion that Indians don't like her merely because she is Pakistani doesn't make sense to me. I don't understand what were people expecting from the critics? To applaud how amazing she was? In my opinion she was average at best. She did not overshadow any of the other actors..and if you're familiar with this woman's work then you'd understand that she had absolutely nothing to offer apart from the very few expressions she has redundantly used from the time she first started.
I found Aasiya's character borderline stupid and my sister actually asked me do you think she was made to be naive and slow or was it Mahira's usual mannerisms and limited expressions from those Humsafar days?

As a Pakistani, I find her very limited as a performer..and I know many Pakistanis who do as well and always have. I walked out thinking she was strictly average at best with her portrayal. I don't expect the critics to rave about her as if she stole someone else's thunder because she didn't. So this whole debate that Indians don't like her because she's Pakistani is giving her too much credit as a performer.

This is what i said that surprisingly the only 2 pakistani friends who went with me didn't like her and out of 3 indians 1 didn't like her and 2 found her OK- not bad but not exceptionally good.

Pakistanis have a huge inferiority complex, especially the so called elite class. So i wouldn't put it past them to diss one of their own just to sound liberal, emancipated and kum-ba-ya-ish. Plus the Pakistani aunty brigade are the jealous sorts who would droll on the very average looking Fawad Khan but would diss a woman who is definitely prettier than them. So as the far as the Pakistanis with you who were dissing her are concerned, i am sure they were doing it to show you how liberal and open-minded and 'one of you' they are. I have seen a lot of those types.

And as far as expressions are concerned then even SRK reused a lot of his expressions. Everyone from Fawad to Saba to Amina whatsherface have the same expression and style of acting.

And its not even about praise its about the backlash that has me curious. Even Mawra with her squeaky voice and below-average acting didn't suffer a backlash.

LOL. I cant believe i am defending Mahira but here we are.

Exactly.

Maybe some are showing their patriotic sides and choose not to speak of Mahira or as much as some expected..at least in critics reviews? but to say that people aren't appreciating her act because they're probably Indians hating on a Pakistani..is giving her performance way too much credit. What next? Pakistanis disliking her, a Pakistani actress, because they're jealous of her? Of course, let's not actually judge the performance at all for what it was.

Personally, I've followed Mahira's performances from when she first started..years ago. I liked her in Bol, her first film..but whatever I saw after was monotonous, repetitive and nothing new. If you analyze all of her performances till date (and I said this before somewhere else already) she offers a few expressions only. And she's extremely predictable with how she emotes..extremely. She follows the same pattern in every work of hers - biting her lips here and there, gawking with her eyes, jerking her head while talking, and then she also has the tendency to make her characters seem borderline stupid. She also tends to portray a lot of her bubbly self in her characters which is another reason why her acting is very predictable.

People expect viewers to praise her for what? just because as a Pakistani she bagged a flower pot role opposite SRK? or she's better than some Bollywood actors? or because she looked pretty? I personally don't think it works that way. I don't see anyone calling her downright horrendous either..and besides, she does get enormous praise generally speaking all the time...which makes her nothing short of overrated.
