Would love to hear some inside opinions on this!
For eg. when a production house decides to pick up a script, the director & male actors are often finalized OR the director pitches a film to the producer keeping an actor in mind - IN SHORT, at the pre-production stage, producer, director & actor are often almost set, if it's a mainstream hindi movie.
Abbas Ali Zafar wrote Sultan keeping Salman in mind, FAN was written keeping SRK in mind and same goes for a lot of other movies. Of course there are exceptions & now we are seeing a lot more meatier roles written for women keeping an actress in mind but in this discussion, I am not talking about movies that are written with a certain heroine in mind (like Priyanka for Marykom or Deepika for Mastani or Sonam for Neerja)...
I am referring to the the typical masala hindi film...how do they select the heroines? I am talking about those bid budgeted so called '100 crore' films where the actress' role isn't as significant as the actors.
Lets take an example - A Salman Khan film ; how did he decide to zero in on Jacqueline Fernandez for KICK? Before that, she was only in multi-starrers, not in any proper mega solo hero film. Didn't show any great promise an actor. Yes, she's pretty but there are dozens of pretty faces!
OR we hear of Parineeti's getting that 'FIT' body photoshoot done because she was first offered Sultan. Rumours have it that Salman said no to her. So Adi Chopra approached Anushka.
OR for eg. Akshay Kumar's Rustom - How did they finalize on Esha & IIleana? I know for IIleana' case, she's friends with Neeraj Pandey but what about Esha?
I doubt auditions happen for established actors & actresses. So obviously, it's got nothing to do with merit..
Do these actors have to constantly do something to stay fresh in producers/directors' minds? And if so, then what? Is that why they invest in publicity for themselves? But I don't remember Esha being in news lately...
Pari has been in the news lately for her weight loss but ironically, apart from Bindu, I don' think she's any project.
So does staying in news really work?
Yami Gautam, who does smaller films, is appearing opposite Hrithik Roshan in Kaabil. That's great but how did she get it? They could've taken anyone because in a HR film, the girl is often sidelined... So, do they have people working for them who constantly market them? I thought that only would happen for endorsements. Does it work the same with movies?
Only very few actors I've seen confess that XYZ recommended me for the film to the director. EG. Shraddha credited Varun Dhawan for ABCD2 ... while Shahid recommended Alia for Udta Punjab..
These chics like Urvashi Rautela, Disha Patani etc - do they socialize and all to get movies or their first break? Like attend parties mingle with people to land projects? But, what if one is unsocial in nature? 😆
OK this was a long post but in short, I want to ask - How do these actresses (who have yet to prove they are great actresses) get movies?
