Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan on Thursday said that people who spread terrorism in the name of religion are the ones who don't follow it.

When asked about the growing terrorism, Aamir told reporters, "People who spread terrorism or do it, have no connection with mazhab (religion), that's what I think, then whether he is of any religion, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Christian..."

"However much as they say that they are doing it for religion, they have no relation with religion, because if they actually followed it, (they will know) mazhab teaches us love," the 51-year-old actor said.

When asked about his views on whether controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik should be banned, the "Dhoom 3" star said, "I won't comment on that. I have said what I want to."

Aamir was speaking at a special Eid press conference.

I see this arguement raised a lot... What does one achieve by muslim's denouncing terrorists that claim to be Muslims and fighting for Islam.

In my humble opinion I feel this is what one is trying to achieve by the denouncement...

1) not giving terrorists free reign to hijack the religion... Not giving them a justifiable cause to hide behind (Islam is chosen today because of the recent wrong doings of West and the location of the wrong doings towards Muslim countries. Eg illegal wars, invasion of countries, regime change... E.g. Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Syria to name a few)

2) to make those who are on the fence, or confused about their religion... Especially those from non practicing to practising... To be more informed, aware and guided when deciding or being recruited

3) to create awareness that the terrorism in the Middle East and from the Middle East is not about religion, but about greed, power.

It would be great if Muslims, non-Muslims, media... United in their stand against terrorism... Speak the same voice... Denouncing the terrorists claims.

The louder we denounce their claims and state clearly that terrorism has no race nor religion... We make the terrorists aware that we the world are united against them and that we the world are not foolish to fall for their false claims and are well aware that the killing of innocents is never for a good cause nor for a holy cause.
