Legally suicide is a crime because it could well be murder and then passed off as suicide. In laws could kill a daughter in law saying she depressed and committed suicide, boyfriends in a fit of rage can kill girlfriends and say she was depressed and committed suicide, children can kill their parents if they dont want to look after them and say it was suicide ... and so on.

Absolutely nailed it.

Even if you don't believe in God, creating a new life, even an animal is still a sacred, mysterious thing even with so much scientific advancement. There are very few things still taboo in this world, taking a life is one of them even if it your own.

It's not as simple as you put it. This reminded me of the days when such thoughts came to my mind and they even do, when I am going through mild depression but then I never had the courage to commit something like this and put my family and friends in God knows what state. Even if you don't feel like you have anything in your life, don't feel motivated, don't want to live or whatever, the thing is there are so many other people whose lives are actually attached to yours and killing yourself will mean killing them, hence a sin/crime. Committing suicide wouldn't solve anything even if you have problems or no problem for one. And if you say that someone is happy and still doesn't want to live, I think it's hypothetical and I haven't come across someone who wants to end their life just for the sake of it, haven't heard anything of the sorts either. One won't commit suicide for the sake of adventure only.

Cause you owe your life to your parents, your SO, your kids, your friends and also the poors(if you believe in giving annual charity).
Suicide is very selfish really, You might think your life does not matter but it may be the source of comfort/happiness/inspiration to people around you.

Suicide is neither a choice nor a sign of weakness. It is the result of extreme emotional trauma that overrides the self sustaining, self preservation functions of the brain.

What a sucidial person needs is care and nurturing,they need to be told that they are not alone,that they matter a lot to some people, they should be made to feel loved,cared for and needed.And also they should be given assurance that whatever happens we are therefor you,you wo'nt have your world crashin down ever. We will always accept you back.Many commit suicde as they feel they can't face family,that should'nt be a case.One must have the assurance that he can always go back home,sleep beside mom and play with dad have fun with siblings,That makes everything in life less painful less scary.

People are discouraged from suicide because no matter how defeated and alone they feel, there are many people who love and care for them, whose happiness depends on them. Committing suicide leaves a large gaping emotional void for friends and family. It is a traumatic experience that haunts them for life.

Rather than forbid suicide, suicidal people need support and assurance from their loved ones to make it through the trauma in their life.
