Irfan is not a Punjabi Muslim! Urdu is usually the language spoken by muslims- losing the Urdu accent to get the punjabi accent correct is what I wanted to say! A person learning Hindi from her childhood and speaking it is not commendable, I was just comparing the two situations - the first one I would find more commendable.

Whoever spoke of Hindi.. Richa was talking about Ash doing Punjabi so well despite Hindi not being her mother tongue. And since Urdu is a lot like Hindi, it would be easier to speak Punjabi than for someone who is not a native Hindi speaker.

Despite it not being her mother tongue, it's as good as that because it's been years of years of Hindi for her with 15 years of school experience. So since you say knowing Hindi makes it easier for learning Punjabi, Ash has had years of Hindi experience then it must be a cake walk for her!

Anyways no point in stretching this further, it's going to be harder for Ash & easier for the others in the end!

native speaker
noun
a person who has spoken the language in question from earliest childhood.
"native speakers of English"

Ash has been brought up in Mumbai, obviously she is a native speaker of Hindi.

Guys I need some applause too. I have learnt Hindi entirely through Bollywood movies despite it being my third language, after Bengali and English. 😛 Plus it was not taught in the curriculum at my school. Please thodi taaliyan mere liye bhi 😳

For my information? It still says Hindi is not our national language, which I already told you about and negated your argument. Just because a majority of the people have a misconception that Hindi is our national language does not mean it can be treated as one. And even I didn't go to every school in the South to find out that it's not taught in every school. I am from the South and I have other friends here too.. and a lot of them did have the option of choosing not to learn Hindi. I

Who said Hindi is not our national language??? It is indeed our national language...I am a South Indian and I know it's taught in every school down here ..except tamilnadu/ Chennai. They are little delusional that their language( Tamil) should be our national language. So they won't learn Hindi...but other than that every state indeed learn Hindi from childhood.
Please aware of facts before make such statements.

As for this article. Yeah I agree it must be difficult for Aish to speak Punjabi for this movie...but I think that's the motive of acting right??? If anyone signs a movie, they are supposedly well aware of everything they learn...it's like deepika learning sword fight for Bajirao, Priyanka and anushka learning boxing for marykom and sultan. But looks like a commendable job by Aish...

Beg to differ. From Wiki:

A native speaker is someone who speaks a language as his or her first language or mother tongue. Native speakers can often speak the language well since it was part of their childhood development. A native speaker's language is usually the language their parents speak and/or the language of their country of origin. It is the only language of a monolingual person, and likely the first language of a multilingual person which is acquired naturally in their native environment and which serves as the basis for their sociolinguistic identity.

She learnt Hindi in school like anybody. That does not make her a native Hindi speaker.

The constitution of India says so. It recognizes Hindi as an official language of the country along with 21 other languages, including Telugu, Tamil etc. Tamils are not being delusional that Tamil should be the national language, they just feel Hindi is oppressing other languages which are equally rich in heritage and culture.
