Taylor Swift’s engagement with Travis Kelce seen as ‘final nail in the coffin’ for Joe Alwyn

Taylor Swift’s engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce has dominated pop culture headlines, but attention has also turned to her former partner Joe Alwyn. The British actor, who dated Swift for six years, is said to have no plans of contacting her after the news broke.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Alwyn, 34, “has not reached out, nor will he” to congratulate Swift on her surprise engagement. A source close to the actor added that while he “genuinely hopes she is in a good place and doing well,” he believes neither of them has any reason for contact. The insider also noted that Swift herself “wouldn’t want to hear from him anyway.”

The same report suggested that Kelce’s proposal acted as “the final nail in the coffin” for any lingering thoughts Alwyn may have had about the relationship. He reportedly no longer thinks about Swift “on any consistent basis” and instead prefers to focus on his own work and personal life.

Swift and Alwyn began dating in 2016, keeping their relationship largely private for six years before parting ways in 2023. Following the split, Swift briefly dated musician Matty Healy before beginning her relationship with Kelce, which has since become one of the most discussed celebrity romances.

Alwyn, meanwhile, has kept a low profile. Best known for roles in The Favourite and Conversations With Friends, he has stayed away from the spotlight and concentrated on projects in London. In an interview with The Guardian earlier this year, Alwyn acknowledged the breakup indirectly, urging both fans and media to move on. “I have tried just to focus on controlling what I can control,” he said. “And, right from the beginning, tried to focus on the things that are meaningful for me: friends, family, work, of course.”

Just days before Swift and Kelce went public with their engagement, Alwyn was spotted in London, dressed casually in a striped jumper and jeans. While he has not spoken publicly about Swift’s new chapter, his decision to remain silent appears consistent with his approach since the breakup: keeping his private life away from the public eye.
