You can judge the practice of polygamy and the concept of women being married off to form alliances. The concept is horrifying then and now so judging them is not wrong. It is what brought change that we do not have those things happen so much any more. But how is it fair calling Baji Rao or Mastani immoral ? They were people of their times and what they did was nothing wrong. then How is judging them by today's standard's right ?

Like Justmoi said...u can judge the system of Polygamy...but not the people who were following the rules of polygamy...they were raised in that system...they abided by that system..

Actually I was getting similar thoughts few days back when I googled their story...It is said that Bajirao's mother hated Mastaani as Bajirao had started neglecting Kashibai after he fell in love with Mastaani..poor kashibai.. But ya as someone said polygamy was normal in those eras...

Mastani was hated because she was half Muslim. Don't think it ha anything to do with polygamy.
Anyways polygamy exists to this day and with our Bollywood stars and their families too. Salman has a step mom. So Salim Khan too is immoral and flawed. So is Dharmendra, who conveniently changed his religion to get married. Shame on them.

We look at murder and warfare as immoral. Yet Peshwa is an Indian Hero. We look at polygamy as against the norm yet historically until about 50 years ago all Indian rulers had multiple wives.

Was Akbar the Great immoral? Jodha was his third wife. And historically not even his favourite. the great love of his life was his first wife.

Mastani was effectively the Golden Goose, she was married off to Peshwa without her opinion likely consulted or required. She went to him with a 1/3 of her dads kingdom (upon his eventual death), a diamond mine, enough Gold coins to fund the next 5 Peshwa campaigns and more land than Peshwa could afford. Had he not married her, her father would have eventually married her off to his rivals and Peshwa being the astute politician would have been a fool to reject this.

Mastanis only mistake was to love her husband. Why shouldnt she? Should she have lived as a widow her whole life despite having a husband? Because he was already married? Mastani herself was the daughter of one of the Maharajs 19 wives. It was common.

The issue was her religion lets not brush over that. Just because she was a second wife we cannot and should not brush her off as immoral. She was a gifted politician, poet, dancer and warrior. A woman this accomplished in those times was a rarity. And thats why Peshwa fell in love with her. She was his equal

Lets be honest, history shows that Kashi wasnt always as sweet and lovable as she is shown in the trailers. A second wife is immoral purely becasue she loves her husband. A woman conniving and plotting to hurt/kill her rival is to be pitied? Why... shouldnt that be just as immoral.

I dont think Peshwa neglected Kashi much to be honest, in the books Ive read she managed to get pregnant at least 6 more times after Mastanis arrival. Doesnt sound like neglect to me 👏

Me neither!

Both of them became pregnant within six months.
Mastani's son lived Kashi's first kid died. Then she had two more sons, one of them became the next Peshwa

if someone really look back into the history of every King and his Queens, one can decipher that women during those times where completely wronged. And it's not just about polygamy where King can legally take any number of wives, there were also other women in Harem. History is not glorious and romanticized as we see in movies. So it's pointless saying whether one is moral or not. And even when politics happen between Queens it is for the favour of King as that could be the only possible way their messed up life could be bit better (even if it is temporary)
