Aabeer Gulaal reviews and box office
I watched it with my friends today.
Amazing movie. The best i have watched in a long long time. Too good.
Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2' box office collections are expected to do well even though a number of other small time films have released alongside like Wedding Pullav and Dimagh Ka Dahi. However, from the lot that hits the screens today, PKP2 which is a sequel to the 2011 hit Pyaar Ka Punchnama is expected to fare well.
And that is exactly what happened with Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2', which opened on a good note with approximately 45% occupancy rate during morning shows.
On the other hand, Wedding Pullav recorded a mere 15% occupancy rate.office.
On the whole, with reviews not really going against it, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2' is expected to dominate this weekend and Wedding Pullav coming in behind.
In terms of business, while Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2' is expected to grow, the other releases will have to rely heavily on good word of mouth to get make sure it is not left awash in red.
Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Panorama Studios' Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (A) is the second in the Pyaar Ka Punchnama series. It is a comedy, based on the same premise as the first - that girls can mess up any and every relationship because of their self-centred nature. Anshul alias Go Go (Kartik Aaryan), Siddharth alias Chauka (Sunny Singh Nijjar) and Tarun alias Thakur (Omkar Kapoor) are bosom pals living together in a rented house. Cupid strikes all the three around the same time.
Anshul meets Ruchika alias Chiku (Nushrat Bharucha) at a party and sparks fly between them. Ruchika is self-centred to the core and she has different rules for herself and for the rest of the world. Siddharth falls head over heels in love with Supriya (Sonali Seygal) whom he meets at a wedding. Supriya reciprocates his romantic overtures and although she has no courage to tell her parents (Sharat Saxena and Mona Ambegaonkar) about her affair, she continues to date Siddharth. Meanwhile, Supriya's parents, treating him as a dear friend, use him to do all their household work and, because he is an engineer, also get their electronic and electrical gadgets repaired from him. Tarun dates Kusum (Ishita Sharma) who pretends to be very clean and clear in money matters but doesn't miss a chance to blow up Tarun's money. She is so money-minded that she keeps poisoning Tarun's mind against his two friends as far as finances go.
The party for all the three friends is on the verge of getting over after some courtship time.
Ruchika has a friend, Sunny (Manvir Singh), coming and staying over with her after a breakup and she starts ignoring Anshul while looking after Sunny. Why, she has no qualms even about sleeping on the same bed as Sunny. To add to Anshul's woes are Ruchika's friends, Tina (Karishma Sharma) and Ruchi (Rumana Mola), who keep filling her ears against him.
Siddharth realises that Supriya will never muster courage to tell her parents about him even though the parents have started groom-hunting for her. She keeps meeting prospective grooms, even exchanging text messages with them on her cellphone while all the time professing her love for Siddharth. But when her father complains against Siddharth to the police, Supriya has no spine to stand up for him.
Kusum drives Tarun nuts with her greed and selfish nature. She uses the same friends, whom she bad-mouths in front of Tarun, to make Tarun see her viewpoint.
What happens thereafter? Do all the three friends reconcile their differences with their respective girlfriends? Or is only one of them lucky? Or do two of them tide over the difficult times?
Luv Ranjan has come up with a fresh story although the premise is the same as in Pyaar Ka Punchnama. The story flows seamlessly and the characterisations are so superbly written that just ten minutes into the film, and one falls in love with the endearing characters of Anshul, Siddharth and Tarun. Rahul Mody, Tarun Jain and Luv Ranjan's screenplay is fantastic. For one, it keeps the audience engrossed and entertained right from the word go'. Secondly, although the premise is the same as in the first film, nowhere does it appear to be exactly like the first film. Thirdly, the comedy is so fresh that the viewers have a truly fun time watching the drama unfold on the screen. It wouldn't be wrong to say that the audience feels completely entertained, thanks to the outstanding comedy. At several times, the drama offers laugh-a-minute comic scenes which bring the house down with laughter. The lengthy monologue by Anshul is a clap-worthy highlight. The scene in which Siddharth sums up, in just two words, what he thinks about Supriya, at the police station, is another highlight scene and will be met with thunderous applause in the cinema halls. The good part about the screenplay is that nothing in the drama looks forced or contrived. Rather, it is a very free-flowing screenplay with fresh situations and comedy galore. Rahul Mody, Tarun Jain and Luv Ranjan's dialogues are extraordinary, and the use of the language and words is so contemporary that the youth will simply adore them while identifying with them. Although a lot of swear words have been beeped by the CBFC, that doesn't seem irritating because the beep sounds tickle the audience which understands what word has been beeped while not embarrassing the family audience.
Kartik Aaryan has an endearing and innocent face and his acting goes well with that. He absolutely shines in the role of Anshul. Sunny Singh Nijjar is cute and natural to the core. He does a fantastic job as Siddharth. Omkar Kapoor is lovely in the role of Tarun, adding the right amount of maturity to his role. He dances very gracefully. Nushrat Bharucha is excellent as Ruchika and adds a good amount of zing to her character. She looks glamorous. Sonali Seygal exudes oomph and performs very beautifully. Ishita Sharma is sexy and acts with effortless ease, leaving a distinct mark. Her solo dance is also lovely. Sharat Saxena makes his presence felt with a fine show. Mona Ambegaonkar provides very good support. Manvir Singh has his moments as Ruchika's heartbroken friend, Sunny. Rumana Mola (as Ruchi) and Karishma Sharma (as Tina) lend excellent support. Amit Arora (as Pankaj), Swarna Mamgain (as Supriya's friend), Kanwal (as Siddharth's friend) and Vini Bakshi (as Ruchika's maid) provide the required support.
Luv Ranjan's direction is praiseworthy. He has not only extracted wonderful work out of his cast but has also kept a fast-paced narrative style which keeps the audience thoroughly entertained. Credit is due to him for making a second film on the same premise as the first and yet not making it a copy of the first. Music (Hitesh Sonik; one song, Sharabi', by Sharib-Toshi) is good but not hit. Lyrics (by Kumaar, Akram Sabri, Danish Sabri, Hitesh Sonik and Luv Ranjan) are lovely and complement the mood of the film. Choreography (by Bosco Martis, Caesar Gonsalves and Howard Rosemeyer) is eye-filling. Hitesh Sonik's background music is excellent. Sudhir K. Chaudhary's camerawork deserves distinction marks. Rajat Poddar's production designing and Kailash Sahu's art direction are of a good standard. Editing (by Akiv Ali and Ajay Sharma) is crisp and sharp.
On the whole, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 is a small film which will prove to be big at the box-office. Its comedy will keep the youngsters and young at heart in splits and, therefore, its distributors smiling from ear to ear. A sure fire hit!

Abey.. Aditi tu ladka hai ya ladki? Tu ladki hoke kaise Anti -Women film ko Promote/Like kar sakti ho? You are completely insensible Aditi... You don't respect women at all... & lablah lablah lablah...
Okay, you have full rights to say all this to me but still my views will not going to change for Pyaar ka Punchanama 2 film. Yes, I confess that I really enjoyed watching this frustrated guy's story, because somewhere I can relate with them as main bhi Har Ladke ki BEST Friend Reh chuki hu especially those ones who really really really fall in a category of frustrated used boyfriends (FUB).
It's a totally new generation ki love problem se bhari picture Jisme har koi connect nahi kar payega. I mean tumhari girlfriend ne kabhi tumhe Snapchat par real time info bhejne ke liye bolaa hi nahi hai to tum kaise samjoge uss dard ko jahan ladke ko apni har second ka hisaab dena padta hai?
Iss film ke andar Ladko ka frustration itna bhar bhar ke dikhaya hai ki by end of the film main apne aap se hi frustrate ho gai (That doesn't mean I am like one of those girls. Meri car, iPhone6, Bills, Trips etc kharche main khud hi uthaati hu & m bloody completely single just because, Jis type ke ladke PKP2 mei dikhaye hai, actually main bhi ussi type ki hun ~ I really don't understand the opposite sex!!)
Coming back to film, Apart from Heeriye (sung by Mohit Chauhan Penned & Composed by Hitesh Sonik) Music and length is genuinely an issue but Aa vakhte part 1 karta production and cinematography genuinely better chhe. Mane ae vastu pan gami ke bhale aakhi movie ma Chhokri-o ni vaat lagaadi chhe but end ma Women ne respect aapta eksaathe 3ye jan ne mama's boybataave chhe. Ab samaj aaya ke Jo lakda I Love you Mom' ka tattoo karvata hai uske Jivan mei kya kya dukh aa chuke hote hai LOL
I must mention that 3 cheers to the writers Rahul Modi, Tarun Jain and Luv Ranjan. Kartik Aaryan film by film saaru kaam karto jaay chhe. The all grown up child actor, Omkar Kapoor is very confident. Nushrat as Chiku je super irritating ane budhdhi vagar nu character chhe aema sari acting kari chhe. Sunny Singh ke tharkee expressions and timing ke sath best liners Maze karvayenge. Sach bataau to film mei jo ladke dikhaaye hai actually real life mei kam hote hai & similarly aisi ladkiya bhi maine to kahi dekhi nahi hai but Jo Problem aur frustration dikhaya hai that's so real. Though I'm a girl, I so much feel connected to the character of Omkar Kapoor.
Fav Line:
Fav Scene: Devar ki Sunti hai Bhaabhiya
Super Fav Scene: Isse to Achchha hai apne haath se shaadi karlo - Yes - Long Epic monologue by Gogo (Kartik Aaryan) ma badha paisa vasool chhe.
Watchable or Not: Just Go & Laugh your a*#$@f. It's a very good take on Aaj ke Zamaane ki Dosti, Pyaar, Problems and saying I Love You/Sorry.
PKP 2 Starcast with Aditi Raval
It's not like that ki men can relate & women should be ready to hate. See 2 Type ki Breeds will connect with the film. 1.) Jo already ch$@#ya ban chukaa hai & 2.) Jinke saath bahot badaa ch$@#yapa ho chukaa hai.
Pyaar Ka Punchnama was released in 2011. It was made with a budget of 7 crore and grossed 17 crore. It was a sleeper hit, but not of magnanimous proportions. Over the years, word-of mouth seemed to spread this cult classic over torrent downloads, CDs and television screens successfully.
Pyaar Ka Punchnama may not have received its due at the time of its release, but Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 certainly shall and may also make up for the injustice done to its predecessor. The theatres were packed, and rightly so.
The film, features many old faces and a few new ones. Let's have a look.
Kartik Aaryan as Gogo (Victim 1)
Sunny Singh as Chauka (Victim 2)
Omkar Kapoor as Thakur (Victim 3)
Nushrat Bharucha as Chiku (Enemy 1)
Sonalli Sehgal as Suuupriya (Enemy 2)
Ishita Raj as Kusum (Enemy 3)
Where did Divyendhu Sharma (Liquid) and Raayo Bakhrita go? According to director and writer Luv Ranjan (this man really is a package deal), he didn't want the second film to be a complete extension of the first film. The females in the cast were retained because the face of evil remains the same'.
To those few who are new to this film, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 is an anti-romance, drama, comedy film. It is directed by Luv Ranjan and written by Rahul Mody, Tarun Jain and Luv Ranjan. The film is produced by Abhishek Pathak.
This film is about the woes of bachelors in search of an ideal partner. It meanders to the concept of a battle of the sexes and also on the modern concepts of relationships in India. The film follows three bachelors with simple lives drenched in innocentfriendship which are destroyed with the coming of women into their lives. (It's a different approach to any conventional Bollywood drama, where the one wronged is always the female)
Luv Ranjan certainly has a wonderful sense of humour. The dialogues and the screenplay are designed in a way that will have you popping up from your seat with bouts of laughter. (He was also sneaky enough to have this film released during the Hindu festival of Navratri, which is all about worshipping goddesses and woman empowerment) The film does not present a single dry moment. It is witty and wonderful. (There are is also an indication of Kartik Aaryan's ex-girlfriend as someone called Neha, which indeed was the name of the character of the girlfriend from the previous film. Little fun for the characters)
But, Luv Ranjan is not simply a funny man, but also terribly intelligent. The plot and the characters, one cannot fail to see from the trailer, are deliberately repeated. The reason behind this is, that people who liked Pyaar Ka Punchnama want to see (whether they admit it or not), the very same film all over again. The filmcatapulted itself from a simple low-budget movie to a franchise with the release of its second installment.
Many things are repeated. Kartik Aaryan's speech, the three vamps in new clothing, the obligatory bachelor pad and so on and so forth. However, it is a miracle that the film is as enthralling as it is with the very same actors and the very same plot. (It takes courage on the part of the film makers to try a stunt such as this. However, the makers were never cowardly, they proved it much earlier when they decided to put a film such as Pyaar Ka Punchnama on screen four years ago)
Kartik Aaryan plays victim one. He is great to watch. The film would have been terribly incomplete without him. Kartik Aaryan is not a Bollywood hotshot or a supreme actor, but he is a star in his own right. His speech in Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 almost parallels the finesse that he delivered in the first installment. He is easy on the eyes and extremely professional on screen. (He deserves an award. He really does)
Sunny Singh is a fresh addition to this film. Although he does remind everyone of Liquid', he brings with himself a subtle charm, which is not easily expected of fresh faces in the industry. Omkar Kapoor does justice to his role. (However, we cannot say that he would have matched the controlled acting of Raayo) The girls play their part aptly. Their unseemly wickedness may have been overdone and stitched into the script, but it keeps us watching.
The film is brilliant in terms of direction and screenplay. The dialogues are the hero of the film. The cinematography is not as subtle as it was in the prequel, it seems quite forced. The songs aren't those that would last many days on a playlist, but only adjuvants to the film. The background score wasn't new, butcharming nonetheless. Many critic would be compelled to say that the film is old wine in a new bottle, but surely it is more than that. (They made the film contemporary and treated the prequel almost as a theme in itself)
On a whole, it's not as great as the first film, but those who liked Pyaar ka Punchnama even in the tiniest degree, really must watch this film. They will have a wonderful time. I give it 3.5/5
