Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 By Bollywood Hungama News Network, 15 Oct 2015, 10:46 hrs IST

Rating: 3.5/5 |

Sequels to succesful movies have been an ongoing trend in Bollywood for a while now. This week's release is PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA 2, which also is a sequel of the 2011's sleeper hit PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA. Will this comedy film about relastionships pack a 'Punch' at the box-office or will it prove to be a box-office dud... let's analyze.

The film starts off with the introduction of Anshul aka Gogo (Kartik Aaryan), Siddharth aka Chauka (Sunny Singh Nijjar) and Tarun aka Thakur (Omkar Kapoor). Amongst the trio, Tarun is the one who is highly paid (Rs. 3 lakhs per month). And it is due to this reason that Siddharth and Anshul live their life kingsize (alongwith Tarun, of course) without having to worry much about finance. Right from buying the drinks to paying the monthly rent of the flat, Tarun is the 'go-to' man for Siddharth and Anshul. Life for the trio is all about working hard and partying harder. Life is very 'normal' and routine for the gang ... till the time three girls enter their respective lives. While Anshul falls head over heels in love with Cheeku aka Ruchika Khanna (Nushrat Bharucha), Siddharth goes bonkers over the 'family inclined' Supriya (Sonalli Sehgall) and the 'gym-conscious' Tarun's heart skips its beat over the fit girl Kusum (Ishita Sharma). The three boys just cannot believe their luck with their respective partners. Life becomes one big party for the three couples until one day when the 'money-minded' Kusum speaks out her 'concern' towards Tarun spending his hard earned money to pay the dinner bill of his boys and their girlfriends. After that, the girls start taking control of the boys' lives and the boys slowly and gradually realise that their respective partners are not as cool as they seemed to be initially. All in the name of love, while Anshul lands up becoming Cheeku's multipurpose boyfriend who drives her and her gal pals around for their shopping, Siddharth becomes Kusum's 'ATM boyfriend' from whom she just keeps taking money, while Tarun ends up becoming house help of sorts to Supriya's parents. After a handful of meetings, the trio realise that befriending the girls was the biggest mistake of their lives and that they are being taken for a royal ride. Just when they are about to break up with their respective girlfriends, the girls start wooing their boys all over again in order to let bygones be bygones and give their relationship a fresh start. Will Anshul, Siddharth and Tarun forgive their respective girlfriends and give a fresh start to their relationships, will the boys move over these girls and find someone new, do the boys really get the love that they really need and what happens to the Cheeku, Supriya and Kusum ultimately... is what forms the rest of the story.

Let's begin with the storyline first. The story is similar to the first part. This film too is a guy film which focuses on issues which boys face in their relationships. There is a fair amount of simplicity to the screenplay that makes the full film relatable and fun. However, PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA 2 has a weaker storyline as compared to PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA. The sequel almost follows the same trajectory as PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA, viz., how the three boys hook up, the initial honeymoon period and then the disaster begins. The dialogues are entertaining to quite an extent. The film is a satire on love and relationships and is not a typical conventional rom-com. The writers have done their level best to bring across the message that real life love story is not a bed of roses. A certain section of the audience may conclude that the proceedings in the film are misogynistic, but the narrative is from the perspective of boys in the film. Despite having complex situations and circumstances in the film, the film's narrative has been kept extremely simple. There are wild-whacky moments aplenty, but the smart integration of the heavy-duty drama towar

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2: Watch or Ditch? Read these five excerpts decide

IndiaTV Entertainment Desk | 13 Oct 2015, 20:35:54 IST

New Delhi: Director Luv Ranjan is back with the sequel to his 2011 hit rom-com Pyaar Ka Punchnama. The movie which unexpectedly took the box office by storm, with mere mouth-of-word publicity, is expected to repeat the same magic again with the sequel. The iconic dialogues, the famous monologue and the laughter riot is what made the first part a favourite among the boys and girls.

Now, as Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 is about to release on October 16, the viewers might be having sky-rocketing expectations from the movie.

But before you doll out your moolah, let's know if the sequel of the movie is worth your time and money.

1. Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 is the story of 3 gullible bachelors

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 is the story of 3 gullible bachelors, who fall for the girls of their dreams. But soon the realty strikes and their dreams turned into nightmares.

The love relationship makes their life a rollercoaster ride. The three are tortured and almost tear apart into half by their better halves.

In short, the same story has been repackaged with different characters on board to get some laughs.

2. The Cast and character

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 has almost the similar cast as it was in its original part. Actresses Nushrat Bharucha, Sonalli Sehgall and Ishita Sharma will be back as the gorgeous divas.

If we talk about male actors, the movie has two new actors Omkar Kapoor and Sunny Singh besides Kartik Aaryan from the prequel.

3. Kartik's famous monologue

The 7-minute monologue by Kartik was the major highlight of 2011 release Pyaar Ka Punchnama'. In the sequel, the famous scene has been revamped in order to create the same old effect.

However, for the viewers, who are looking for refreshment in the prequel, the repackaging concept of the popular' scene won't be a happy sight.

4. Not an adult comedy

If you are going by the posters and thinking that Pyaar Ka Punchanama is an adult comedy then you are mistaken.

As per film's leading actor Kartik Aryan, the movie has nothing like adult, be it dialogues or objects. He further asserted that Pyaar ka Punchnama 2 is a situational comedy film, not an adult comedy.

5. Reasons to watch

Boys: The poor adams, caught in tragic relationships, really don't require or desire any reason to watch this sexist comedy. However, if you are looking to get over your heartbreak, the movie has a lot of laughter moments to sail you through.

Girls: If the comedy factor is not enough, you can learn some tricks to trouble your boyfriends and lovers.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 Director: Wanted to Make a Film Against Love

Press Trust of India | October 14, 2015 15:29 IST (New Delhi)

This image was posted on Facebook by Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 .
"PEOPLE ALWAYS FEEL THE NEED TO TAG OTHERS. IF ANYONE IS PUTTING A LABEL ON ME AND SAYING THAT I AM A MISOGYNIST, I CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. OUR METROPOLITAN SOCIETIES HAVE BECOME HYPERSENSITIVE AND WE CAN'T TAKE A JOKE. BUT AT THE SAME TIME IN SMALL CITIES AND VILLAGES, PEOPLE'S FAVOURITE PASTIME IS BANTER," SAID LUV RANJAN
Pyaar Ka Punchnama, which revolves around three friends facing issues with their demanding girlfriends was a dark horse at the box office but many felt that the movie's tone was not very kind from the female perspective.

Filmmaker Luv Ranjan, however, is not bothered by the criticism as he has made Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, which yet again is a funny take on relationships.

"People always feel the need to tag others. If anyone is putting a label on me and saying that I am a misogynist, I can't do anything about it. Our metropolitan societies have become hypersensitive and we can't take a joke. But at the same time in small cities and villages, people's favourite pastime is banter. It used to be the same earlier. It's just that we have become too serious about ourselves," Luv told PTI.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 features Omkar Kapoor, Sunny Nijar, Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha, Sonali Sehgal and Ishita Sharma.(Also Read: Salman Khan Has More Than One Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 Connection)

"Our premise is same but the treatment is different. So we took this call that we will change the characters and the storyline will be from the perspective of the new characters. This time too we are making fun on how women are," Luv added.

Luv said that he wanted to make a story that showed the ugly side of romance and that's how Pyaar Ka Punchnama happened.

"I wanted to do a film against love. It was just an idea. In our films, love is always glorified but I wanted to do something different. And I wanted to do it in a humorous way. I wanted to show how the whole concept of a relationship can become troublesome when in love," he added.

When Luv was asked whether he would like to continue the franchise in the near future, he said, "It completely depends on the audience's reaction. If they do not like the second part, I will stop making the film."

Luv started his career in the film industry as an assistant director to Suneel Darshan before making it big with Pyaar Ka Punchnama, which features newcomers. He does not wish to work with A-listers.

"The films that I want to make somehow have the need for a younger voice so that my characters are more magnified and they are on the forefront. It's not a planned thing but somehow I never felt the need of working with the stars," said Luv.

I'm only going to watch the new 5 minute monologue the male lead has memorised in the film. That was just about the only good scene in the first film too. 😆

Movie Review by Subhas Jha
Rating - 4.5/5

By the time Kartik Aaryan's pe**s monologue'(as opposed to Eve Ensler's Vag**a Monologues) comes on full-throttle, we are so bloody hooked to the very familiar very mortifying and yet very comforting love life of our three protagonists that we are positively rooting for the underdogs.

A big applause for the male victims of gender inequality.

Meet Anshul (Kartik Aaryan), Siddharth(Sunny Singh) and Tarun(Omkar Kapoor), the regular metro-sexual hetero-sexual flat-mates looking for love...and finding more than what they had bargained for.

A spirit of sassy exploration runs through this extremely enjoyable vaguely misogynistic comedy. Pyaar Ka Punchnaama 2(PKP2) is not just bolder more provocative than the first part. It's a lot sexier and smarter. A chirpy chutzpah cuts through the sharply-written narrative creating a credible and disturbing argument against urban relationships of convenience .

The way writer-director Ranjan shows his three heroes being exploited by their girlfriends may seem extreme. But the film is not saying every woman is a schemer.God and Madhu Kishwar forbid! It's only asking for a fair reading of gender dynamics. Men DO get caught in situations where they must compromise with everything from their ego to their bank balance. They do suffer and bleed, you know. And yes they get raped too. Though in this film it isn't done literally.

So here's the lovers' dilemma. Anshul's new love-interest(Nusrat Bhrucha, playing the thankless role of the airheaded deceiver with a squeaky sincerity) insists on hanging around with her best friends 24/7. She even has her male best friend sleep with her in her bedroom while boyfriend looks on helplessly.

So when Kartik Aaryan as Anshul asks on behalf of all men who have to deal with their Significant Other's male BFF(ask Shah Rukh Khan whose wife Madhuri Dixit in Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam insisted on best friend Salman Khan hanging around constantly) why it is okay for women to have male best friends and not okay for men to have female best friends, Anshul puts forward a valid point.

Luv Ranjan's romp into the confusing mind of women mines into areas of everyday gender interaction with an insider's knowledge of how manipulative and lopsided relationships can get in a competitive society . When Anshul wonders why men say sorry to women without knowing what wrong they've done he echoes what Abhishek Bachchan said about the key to a successful marriage.

"Just say sorry to your wives every night for whatever she may think you've done wrong."

Surreptitiously but surely the plot constructs for itself a spiral of anecdotes and incidents , all insightful intuitive and funny, indicating serious blind spots in the gender equation.

A lot of the credit for making muting the movie's misogyny to a mellow decibel goes to the three male leads, each one delivering a polished performance. With his looks and ability to give a face to male anguish so effectively I wonder what keeps Kartik Aaryan from getting to the top. Giving him inspired company are Sunny Singh and Omkar Kapoor.

Sunny's almost-Sardar' act brings in a bit of Dhanush from Raanjhana. His hopeless devotion to the Punjabi kudi(Sonnalli Saygal) and her demanding parents(Sharat Saxena, Mona Ambegaonkar) are so heftily humorous and heartbreaking, the young actor with his forlorn eyes and Didi tera devar caller tune on his phone, creates an immediate connectivity with the audience.

Omkar Kapoor as a practical sensible rich boy who gets trapped by a girl (Ishita Sharma, very attractive) by a clever gold-digger is a surprise. Yesterday's child actor is now sure-shot star material. Omkar and Ishita's private striptease performance has to be seen to believed.Very very tantalizing.

The believability quotient in the film is heightened and complemented by its aesthetics. More than anything else PKP2 is a very good looking film with actors and actresses who are easy on the eyes and can actually act. The dialogues by Rahul Mody, Tarun Jain and Luv Ranjan poke fun at conventional definitions of love and commitment without causing any offence to anyone. And yes, if anyone does choose to get offended, then too bad. This film doesn't really care about what spoilsports think.

Just when we think we know what women want, or don't want, or want but pretend not to want, they surprise us with some more unpredictable behavior.

Luv Ranjan's Pyaar Ka Punchnaama in the 2011 was the surprise success of the year.A gritty look-while-we-leap dare devilish work challenging feminist /post-feminist notions of gender equality , the film ripped open all the nice' conventional notions of the man-woman equation to reveal a deep and devilish cleft between what men desire and women actually deliver.

Once again writer-director Luv Ranjan walks dangerously close to misogyny , and comes up trumps. The tightly wound script once again wraps itself around the minds hearts and thighs of three girls and guys who can't see that love is nothing but self-interest in disguise.

Many episodes of this terrific treatise on gender aberrations stand out. The last 30 minutes when the laughter kind of evaporates to expose the hollowness of relationships based on self-satisfaction, are rousing and melancholic .

I came away with a huge chuckle and a deep sigh from the film ,and with images of Kartik Aaryan's love dance' with his deceiving girlfriend and her two sahelis. As Aaryan twirled and pirouetted with the ladies he seemed to be tokenizing the Great Modern Urban Tragedy.

All the ratings are between 3-3.5,so it's a good sign! The movie can become a slipper hit!But I don't think it will be better than the first one, because in my opinion most of the sequels can't match up with the first one!But I think it will be still entertaining 😛
