Watched #Phantom and must say the fast-paced gripping tale is just not to be missed this Friday. Kabir Khan has dished out a film that offers you no chance to blink once it rolls. An edge-of the-seat thriller with a gripping storyline, plenty of raw action and nail-biting moments. It's gritty and crisp with some brilliant performances by the cast! The watertight screenplay work wonders and makes sure that you stay glued to your seats. Kudos Kabir for this one!
First of all, the movie is not anti-Pakistan at all. Here is another Kabir Khan movie which shows the good side of the country (apart from the terrorist activities) rather than showing it in a negative light.
Phantom' is a gripping one and a wonderful delight in an era where producers and directors encourage more of entertainers than such serious political-action-dramas.
The editing is crisp and to-the-point; a must need for such movies so that the audience remains glued to their seat rather than getting bored.
From the background score effects to action stunts, the movie is technically brilliant. The action scenes look raw and natural rather than choreographed.
Coming to the performances, Saif Ali Khan does an amazing job, yet again! The actor has proved his versatility time and again from switching between action, comedy and romance. He is more than box-office collections and carries the entire movie on his shoulders with a matured performance.
Katrina Kaif should keep acting in Kabir Khan movies, as the director makes sure that she gets a tailor-made role and does a fantastic job in the role given to her. She will make you laugh and make you cry, and does not get overshadowed by the hero!
Another man, who has impressed the audiences a lot off late is Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. He does a brilliant job, once again and proves his worth in the little role he has got.
And finally, to the director who deserves a huge round of applause for making this movie- Kabir Khan. He does it yet again. He makes sure the viewers remain engaged to the story of the movie and prevents any kind of heroism and melodrama. While the first half sets the mood of the movie as a straight and serious film, Khan gives the viewers a dosage of emotion along with superb action scenes. He is the best director the industry has got at present, and he proves it once again! His experience of documentaries and his knowledge regarding world politics comes to use here once again.
Brownie points for making the story completely different from the book Mumbai Avengers and just keeping the concept similar.
We give the movie THUNDEROUS CLAPS.
Detailed review COMING SOON...

The man of moment Kabir Khan is back with his directorial Phantom starring Saif Ali Khan, Katrina Kaif and Zeeshan Ayyub. Read the review of the film below:
The 26/11 Mumbai Attacks are still fresh in our mind and the story is of Phantom is something which every Indian wants to be true. Kabir Khan with the help of writer Hussain Zaidi have got the right plot and the only way a story like this could have gone wrong is bad visualisation of the events. At its core, Phantom is a typical Bollywood story of redemption where in an Ex-Army officer, Daniyal Khan (Saif Ali Khan) is on a suicide mission to get back the lost respect from his father and soldiers.
At core Bollywoodish, what separates Phantom from other Bollywood revenge saga is the narration and detailing. Right from the first frame, Kabir Khan manages to grab the eye balls and keeps you on the edge of the seat wanting to know what happens next. The detailing behind each and every assassination and the execution of the same is breath taking. As Kabir Khan has mentioned in all the interviews, the locations form a part of the story itself and cinematographer Aseem Mishra has some stunning visuals to serve. Be it Beirut, London, Kashmir or even the authenticity of Pakistan, everything seem so real and spectacular on the screen.
How exciting would it be for you to see the characters in the film mouthing the dialogues which you would think about the 26/11 Mumbai Attacks? There is an instant connect in terms of dialogues mouthed by the lead cast as 26/11 is something which has moved us all. Tum Hamesha Poochte Ho Na Ki India Kya Chahti Hai? Yeh Lo Uska Jawaab Main Deta Hu - India Chahti Hai INSAAF' - This is one of the very many dialogues which will get lump in your throat. One more dialogue which stays with you is spoken by Katrina Kaif - Woh Logo Ne Taj Nai, Mujhse Mera Bachpan Cheen Lia' comes at such a situation that make you clap. The dialogues in Individual sense won't be very ear pleasing, but the way they have been incorporated is something very commendable. The entire ambience around the dialogues makes its far more effect.
Another sub plot which shows the sign of Kabir Khan's brilliance in handling the human emotion is when he establishes the Sub Plot of a Nurse in Pakistan who is in grief of losing his son due to getting indulged in Lashkar-E-Taliban. There is a tremendous emotional connect in that scene, where you see the hunger of a mother to take revenge. A thrilling background score is a must for a edge of the seat thriller like Phantom and Julius Packiam like always does not disappoint.
The narration needs the song Afghan Jalebi' which takes the story forward. Phantom is so tight at the script level that it does not give you a chance to let your attention divert anywhere else. Every character written by Kabir has an inner conflict along with the main reason to take revenge for the 26/11 attacks which gives the film an upper hand over most of thrillers in Bollywood. The film is very nicely edited by National Award winning editor Aarif Shaikh. Considering the thriller format, the film has a perfect run time and full marks to the editor for this.
If we talk about performances, full marks to the casting director to get the right actors for the characters. Saif Ali Khan who looked a bit out of sync in Agent Vinod is in full form in Phantom. Kabir Khan has managed to extract Saif Ali Khan's one of finest performances till date. The actor surprisingly looks very convincing in the action sequences and the credit for the same goes to the action director who has designed few of the finest action sequences for Bollywood Film. One of the biggest surprises of Phantom is Katrina Kaif. As against what the trailer suggested, the actress delivers a great performance and rather it won't be wrong to say that this is the first time Katrina Kaif has actually managed to emote well. The hunger for revenge is visible in Katrina Kaif's character. Watch out for her interaction with nurse in the second half. Despite two power packed performances by the lead cast, Zeeshan Ayyub makes his presence felt. Few of the finest dialogues of the film are kept reserved for Zeeshan and he delivers them with so much conviction. As one of the head of the suicide mission, the actor had to be happy for the success but at the same time keep it a secret from the world. How difficult would that be to show on big screen but Zeeshan does that with ease. There are many clap worthy sequences involving Zeeshan Ayyub. Sabyasachi as Raw Chief and Sohaila Kapur as Pakistani Nurse are two characters which despite limited screen presence form an essential part of the story.
To sum up, Phantom is yet another feather under Kabir Khan's hat. Right from the first frame, Kabir manages to evoke the curiosity with the gripping screenplay. Phantom is a straight forward take on terrorism and Kabir does not shy away to show the reality without being diplomatic. The director has gone ahead to use the real names of terrorists hiding in Pakistan and also exposed the activities of ISI helping the terrorists to live safely across the globe. The emotions of people who have lost their loved one in the attacks is also visible in the film. Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif's power packed performance along with many heroic dialogues makes Phantom a must watch for all the Indians. After Kabul Express, New York and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Phantom will help Kabir Khan create his own brand which very few directors in India have managed.
Phantom is actually a story which every Indian will want to be true.
After Bajrangi Bhaijaan with Salman Khan, a lot was expected from filmmaker Kabir Khan with his recent release, Phantom. Starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif, this venture sheds light on the 26/11 attacks that took place in Mumbai in the year 2008 and speaks of a story, you wish were true.' It presents a take on how justice could have been brought to Indians post these horrific attacks. 7 years later, the culprits still haven't been caught, let alone convicted, which is precisely Phantom's point. If I had to sum up this venture in one word, I would call it powerful. Here's my review of the film:
What's it about:
The film starts with a narration and presentation of footage, pictures and other clippings from the 26/11 attacks in 2008. The very crux of the film is made clear with this crisp, to-the-point beginning. Soon we are taken into 2015, where certain authorities decide to seek justice for the 2008 disaster, and hire a paagal aadmi' for their mission. Enter, Saif Ali Khan. Meet Daniyal Khan, a former Army officer who was kicked out from the force due to a tragic incident. Why is up for you to find out! Daniyal has been hired by RAW for a mission to kill the Pakistani terrorists who were involved in the horrific 26/11 attacks on Mumbai. He is made to meet Katrina Kaif aka Nawaz Mistry, a former RAW agent who now works as a security counselor and supplies arms to refugee camps. She helps Saif on his mission. Daniyal wishes to meet the LET leader and its members by hook or by crook. He travels first to Syria and then later makes his way to Pakistan, in order to get closer to his goal. There follows a shocking turn of events, gripping action scenes and more.
What's hot
Firstly, I would like to give a shoutout to Kabir Khan for coming up with a brilliant concept as such. We all have discussed about what happened and the way it did. People have craved for justice and carried out marches, asking for the same. But a visionary like Kabir has managed to truly paint an ideal picture and captured the feelings of most Indians in relation to the 26/11 incident. The storyline is unique and its pace is fast, which is a strong point about the film. Not once did I witness a dull moment and was on the edge of my seat throughout. Saif Ali Khan is convincing in his role as a vengeful ex army officer. The actor plays the role perfectly with the appropriate amount of zeal, wrath and passion. I however cannot say the same for Katrina Kaif's performance. She looked gorgeous no doubt but failed to live up to her character, in my opinion. The actress brought nothing new to the table and lacked intensity. The action scenes in the film are well executed and thrilling. What brings them alive on-screen is the fantastic background score which works well with the violence shown. There are twists to the plot which keep it intriguing. The most engaging factor about the venture were the techniques used by Daniyal to kill the terrorists. Each one of them is different and well presented. I could tell Kabir has done some major research for the film and the same has worked in his favour. Phantom will truly win a million hearts, especially of those who were either victims of the 26/11 attacks or lost their loved ones. Kabir came to the point and had the guts to make a risky film as such, which I feel is praise worthy.
What's not
The ending scenes tend to get slightly dramatic and a bit stretched. Had they been shorter, the impact could have been greater. I would say this is the only minus point.
What to do
Do not miss this film. It will win you over, thanks to Kabir Khan's vision and implementation of the same. I stand convinced that this truly is a story I wish were true. Kabir has simply highlighted what most of us feel and would want in reality. A brilliant plot, teamed with thrilling action, Phantom is a must watch.
