Clash May Cost Bang Bang Opening Day Record
Wednesday 1 October 2014 09.30
Box Office India Trade Network

Bang Bang took an excellent advance when plans opened on Monday. The advance in the North was phenomenal and as good as any big release till date. The plans for Haider starting opening yesterday at some places.

It is likely that the clash between the two will cost Bang Bang the opening day record which stands at 32 crore nett plus by Dhoom 3 last December. If the film was a solo release it is pretty certain the film would have topped that figure but now it will have get the sort of occupancies that have not been seen since films started to go over 2000 screens a few years back.

A record can't be totally written off but basically 80% or even more of the first day business that Haider does would have gone to Bang Bang if it came solo. It does not make difference in terms of lifetime business as it is a huge extended holiday weekend and there are no major releases for three weeks.

So basically the clash is not going to hurt either film in the long run if they have the content as there is plenty of time for a good run. The opening records which are a possibility for Bang Bang will be tough though there is an outside chance.

does bang bang hv any substance behind the gloss? All im getting
from the promos is two extremely good looking people made even
better looking with cool costumes and snazzy moves.

People going to see Hrithik and Katrina once anyway. Since the
movie is a remake the story is known. I guess it wins over Haider'since
the average person wants to be entertained for three hours and get away from their daily humdrum.

Haider has curiosity value. Yes, its Shakespeare but the promos
are kind of interesting..very edgy. Shahid rolling his eyes like a
madman and drawling hullo hullo hullo menacingly into the mike..
not a sight you see too often in the hindi movies. lol But definitely
niche audience stuff.

Yeah, agree with the poster above me. During this festive season, people would want to be entertained and BB looks that type. Haidar will be good, no doubt, but it's based on the bleak story of Hamlet and is a serious drama. Not sure how people would take to it during these celebratory times.

Knight and Day itself was poor movie, so I'm not expecting BB to be some mind blowing action movie. But D3 was a horrible movie, yet it went on to become an ATBB. I guess people just look at the entertainment quotient these days. Kick, D3, and BB types provide that, hence, they work.

BB is glossy, happy and high on adrenaline kinda movie...
Haider is a Kashmir background, dark, slow and sad movie...

It is Diwali Season, I think people would go for BB on festive season.

My personal view, I don't mind going for both but I am more excited about the Haider because I wash to know more and see how he adapted it. KAD I have seen and know the story of BB.

I don't think Haider can make a dent in Bang Bang. Haider is a dark niche film for a very small niche audience. The Vishal Bharadwaj fan club is probably miniscule to the Hrithik or katrina fan club. There is probably negligible overlap as well. There is the Shahid Kapoor fan club. Even that is smaller compared to the Hrithik/Katrina groups. Moreover not all Shahid's fans collected from his bubblegum days would be as vested in Haider. Maybe only the hardcore ones. Most neutral film goers also would most likely pick Bang Bang for the pure entertainment value.

The only way Haider can make a dent in Bang Bang is if Bang Bang is worse than Dhoom 3 and Haider has massive word of mouth. The chance of that happening is less than 1%.

Personally, I would prefer Haider. But sadly only Bang Bang is coming to my town.
