Oh wait. The Times of India started the whole controversy by tweeting first. Isn't the timing of their own tweet suspicious - digging out an old, sensationalised story to cash in on Deepika's limelight while her film was set to release?

HA HA HA...DNA ne TOI ke keh kar le lee is article mein🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

The whole article is worth highlighting but this is especially for those who were saying that Deepika started it for promoting her movies...😆 😆

Actually the article explains many points. Look at this-
The article ends by questioning the timing of the outrage saying the video was on Youtube for a year, and questioning why Deepika did not object for so long. Well, by TOI's own admission the web is cluttered, so may be the video escaped everybody's attention till TOI decided to dig it out of their voyeuristic grave.
😆

This whole issue is turning from genuine case to melodrama now! More like a publicity stunt. I support genuine concerns, detest publicity hungry stunts 🥱

So TOI has been fighting for its 'right' to continue photographing cleavage, breasts, ass and lord knows what else, if the said woman has worn less than modest clothing in the past, voluntarily. TOI thinks its entitled to invade a womans privacy and sexually objectify her simply because of what she chooses to wear (or lack thereof) off screen - implying that she is s**tty and mmoral anyway, thereby objecting to its actions is a form of hypocricy.
What kind of twisted mentality is that? Its shameful and only perpetuates the views held by many perverts in India who prey on women.

It seems sexual objectification of women and sexism is something that is deeply entrenched in indian society and is institutionalised. Look at how quickly TOI jumped to call Deepika a hoe, in order to justify themselves.

TOI's response is appalling. Even if we assume Deepika has an agenda, does the larger issue lose its relevance. Deepika is an individual but TOI is an organisation...expected a mature response.

Here's the problem - TOI fails to (or refuses to?) understand the difference between sensual images published as they were shot, and purposeful modification of angles to make the images look vulgar

^ This is exactly the problem which naysayers fail to understand.

There was no need for the specific mention of liquor. Are we supposed to interpret that women who promote liquor are women of dubious virtue, and hence it is okay to objectify them?

The Times of India started the whole controversy by tweeting first. Isn't the timing of their own tweet suspicious - digging out an old, sensationalized story to cash in on Deepika's limelight while her film was set to release?

^THIS.

So I agree, this issue has already been talked about a lot,but seeing TOI's justification disgusts me. I do not know about this DNA newspaper and they may or may not have printed the article on Deepika's behest but what they have said is absolutely right. But I really really wish this issue stops here*sigh*

well written article..
What TOI and likes of them fail to understand was that the main issue was the tagline of the picture...
" OMG..deepika's cleavage show.'...as if cleavage was some eighth wonder of the world or some new discovery 😕...thats the reason she responded..' yes am a woman and got a cleavage'...

just coz for years bollywood actresses did not respond to such voyeuristic treatment by leading dailies does not imply no one ever should raise their voice against it...

TOI clearly does not understand the difference between the two when they compare magazine covers and modeling with these kind of sleazy pics and tags ...its like comparing apples with oranges...

TOI stance was foolish. You cannot justify cheap headlines citing it as compulsion of nature of online media.
Deepika should have only pointed out the circling and highlighting of body parts. That FB post was unnecessary.

Specifically highlighting body parts of any male or female actor is cheap.

I hate how whenever an actress speaks up she is bashed for staging a publicity stunt. Be it Preity talking about abuse or Deepika talking about this style of journalism.

The calendar and other photo shoots are done with the consent of the actor and cannot be equated with such pics.

I think actors should be allowed to live! The ones who dress modestly and refuse to expose are made fun of, called boring or aunties and it is predicted they won't go ahead in career. And the ones who flaunt their body are bashed otherwise for selling their body, are at receiving end of such cheap videos etc.
What's an actor supposed to do then?

Media knows no limits. I always like it whenever any star takes up cudgels against media. TOI is trash anyway and last year The Hindu took them to cleaners. They are worst of yellow journalism.

Sorry if I sound conservative but I think actors be it male or female, need to dress carefully than ask others not to photograph them a certain way.

haha

what should J-Law do? She has been hacked and now everyone has seen her naked. Now that's intruding someone's privacy and here is deepika crying over her exposed cleavage 😆

she has shown her nipples, side boobs and here she is crying foul, poor deepika.

now so called feminist will compare it to rape, its without consent, poor deepika 😆

poor deepika who chose this line of work and earns crores for exposing herself and getting male audience. Doing all kind of works, maybe even an escort? who knows but here she is crying over an exposed cleavage 😆 and we've to take this seriously and compare it to actual issues?

oh she has a rite to expose in movies, that is with her consent? Journalist has a rite to take her pic and put it in their new paper, how about that? Its their choice and their job, that's what sells. Sex sells, horny men all over India and the world wants that.

Deepika first exposes herself in movies and magazines and now she is on top and men are drooling over her (don't know why, her face looks like a frog) She exposes herself to lure the men. So what are journalists gonna do? Men are interested in seeing her private parts, so they're gonna give them what they want.

Oh u don't want jounos taking your pic? Don't join the profession and if u do then know how to take it. This is showbiz

but she already knows all this and this is all PR

I bet she wouldn't mind being in hollywood and exposing herself, being naked or paparazi taking those pics, I mean have u seen what kind of pictures they take and post? No one cries there so why here? Because its India and u r Bharatyanari?

U r an actress, u should know better!

Stop connecting this incident with other big issues like rape, don't connect the two, that's a different issue which needs to be dealt with but not here.

The argument is old and false.

In a public place anyone can take anyone's pic, if u dress like a s**t and someone takes your pic and posts it on internet, that's your own responsibility just like when u go to ghetto and expect not to be robbed, again your own responsibility.

keep crying or accept where we're at and take responsibility and know how it all works.
